Mix and Match with Karen-September Edition

Hi everyone! This is Karen, back for another Mix and Match! Remember how I said I was not sure I could use the Chalk Studio line? Well, I must have been totally crazy, because not only did I use it for my Mixed Media page, but I also used it on this month's layout! So much for my ability to gauge the absolute awesomeness of this line.

I decided to continue my 6x12 streak for another month and pulled out a photo of my husband and me from last year's holiday party. I've wanted to use this photo for a long time, but it was quite black and I wasn't sure what to do with it. I decided to cut around the edges of our body and glue it against the bottom of my page. Then I added the chipboard banner from Chalk Studio.
After that, I pulled out the chipboard sheet from the Lost and Found 3 - Oliver line and added the gold banner. Once I saw the two together, I decided to challenge myself and see if I could keep the whole layout just black & white & gold. Here's what I ended up with:
Even though the lack of color on this page is very much unlike me, I kind of like how it turned out. I ended up cutting up the Label Stickers in the Chalk Studio and then stamped on them in white so I could create the lines I like and then journal. I also added a few banners from the Lost and Found 3 and the enamel dots from Cut & Paste.
On the top, I added one tiny bit of journaling between the banners and cut out the extra gold from the Lost and Found 2's Adore paper and the circle gold is behind one of the brads in Lost and Found 3. I always make a point to take my embellishments apart and rearrange them as I see fit.
I hope you like the regal look of the black, white and gold page, as much as I do. If you haven't tried one, I highly recommend it and if you just want to start small, how about trying to do some journaling with white pen this week?

A Little Hello by Danni Reid

Danni says: I love that winter MAY be coming to an end and a hello card celebrating cute snowmen in tape measure patterns and a fun sentiment is just the kind of wintery card I can get into right now.  I love the beautiful patterns in this pad, a lot of fun blues, deep reds, yellows, everything fun and wintery.

The brads from the Collectable line are so cute and make me so happy.  These brads added a perfect amount of embellishment to the snowmen without a taking away from the cute patterns.

I cut my snowmen paper on my Cameo and lined them with a sheet of the multi stripe tape measure paper.  I love how stylish it makes them feel, not so wintery and coooold!

Tina says:Tina here today with a heritage layout featuring ME, during a winter in Wisconsin, circa 1967.  Lost & Found 3 Oliver is great for heritage and vintage themed layouts, and especially for winter layouts with its icy blues, yellows, and greys.

I wanted my title to coordinate with the rest of my winter layout, so I cut my title from a sheet of the Blue Lace paper, and cut a second title from a sheet of gold foil paper.  I offset the top title from the bottom title so that the gold foil paper would peek from behind, and adhered the title to the layout with foam tape.  The gold really makes the title stand out and coordinate with the  gold glitter embellishments.

As an added bonus, we are sharing the digital file for the title below, so you are welcome to use this on your own winter themed layouts.

Valentine's Day Frame by Jana

Hello everyone! Jana here today. Valentine's Day is such a beautiful holiday. It's a time to express your love to those who are closest to you. I like to sprinkle soft, romantic touches around our home to remind my family how much I love them.

However, I needed something to brighten up our kitchen counter. Something romantic, soft and beautiful. That's where the My Mind's Eye Lost & Found 3 Ruby collection came into play.

 

Supplies:Lost & Found 3-Ruby:Red Floral patterned paper,Pink Lace pattered paper,Medallion patterned paper,enamel dots

 

I found an abandoned white frame in our closet and decided to create a dimensional art piece. I used my electronic die cutting machine to cut out the graduated hearts in different Ruby papers.

The hardest part was deciding which of the beautiful patterns I was going to use! I stacked the hearts together and then used my sewing machine to zig zag stitch down the center. Next, I folded up the layers of the hearts and used pop dots as spacers in between each layer.

 

I created a folded banner and added a calligraphy sentiment (also cut out with my die cutting machine). I used pop dots to attach the banner to the frame.

Finally, I used the enamel dots in a few spots to look like paint droplets. I love how this came together! Easy and beautiful. And definitely something that can be replicated for any type of holiday.

Jana says:One thing that I LOVE about the Lost and Found 3 collection is all of the textures. This collection not only has embossed papers, but check out the glittered papers, glittered chipboard pieces, metal accents, and soft trims. I tried to incorporate all of these different textures on this page.

I wanted to use the square artisan chipboard shape in two places on this page … I used my scissors to cut it into two pieces and tucked the raw edge of each piece behind my photos.  I also handcut a few flowers from the Mixed Floral Glitter paper, and then added the white lace trim underneath the bottom edge of the striped pattern paper strip.

Tamara says:I created this layout as a guest designer for CSI (Colors, Stories, Inspiration). I incorporated many elements from their "Case File" assignment: the colors - teal, yellow, orange, gray, and white, doily pattern, transparent elements, and framed journaling. It was fun to use this case file as inspriation and try out a color combination with design elements I hadn't thought of. It also worked perfectly with this recent portrait of my daughter.

The fabulous Lost and Found Oliver line already had the teal, grey and yellow color palette I needed (I especially LOVE the embossed Quatrafoil paper).

I added a touch of orange from the Indie Chic collection. I used the fabulous doily stickers and brads running along the right side of my layout. For the transparent element, I used the decorative tapes from The Sweetest Thing. I love the translucent quality of the tape, it reminds me of vellum.

Suzanne says:I loved the following scrapbook page from Juliana. One thing that drew me to the page was her design using many different patterns of paper. I loved her creative use of the papers, and the many layers she created within the page.

I am normally a one picture type of gal, so this was another element that drew me to her page.

I tried to mimic her use of the various papers to showcase my little girl.

The different layers added a soft element to my page, which complimented my sweet photo.I also added a doily to my page. A perfect detail on a girl page.

I also was inspired by the cluster of buttons & brads, and used buttons from the lost & found 3 Ruby collection on the right side of the page.

Ronda says:When strolling through My Mind’s Eye Inspiring Cards & Layouts, Mary Ann’s layout jumped out at me.

I usually condensed in my designs using a lot of white space around the page.

Mary Ann’s page is both beautiful & frightening to me.  I absolutely adore the design but it is out of my scrapbooking safety zone.  That’s the beauty of finding inspiration and challenging yourself, so I stepped outside by comfort level and started creating.

I was drawn to her used of patterned papers in all the polaroids found on the Follow your Heart Be Happy Adorable paper. I decided to use the Sweetest Thing Together Chevron Paper and layer some of the frames from a second sheet to add some dimension. 

Like Mary Ann I chose to use mostly black & white photos, with one exception which became my focal point. 

I love how she used embellishments outside the frames a knew I had to incorporate those elements and add in my own little splatters of ink.

My title is a nod to her use of numbers and really finished off my page.  I love this page and am very happy I pushed myself.  Thanks Mary Ann for such an inspiring page.

Mixed Media with Karen...Lost and Found 3

Good morning everyone! This is Karen Grunberg and I'm here with my December mixed media blog post.

This month, I wanted to have fun with some of the beautiful papers and embellishments in the Lost and Found 3 line.

As I looked through the papers, the labels jumped out at me and gave me the inspiration for my page. So I cut them out and started laying them down in my book. I didn't over-think it, I picked two corners and cut out the two pieces of paper I liked the best. I painted my background a muted gray and glued the papers on the edges.

I then used the sticker sheets and chipboard accents to add some layers and shimmer to my page. I grabbed some contrasting alphas and wrote my main word (free) and started adding more letter stickers.

After adding my title, I also used some of the texture stamps to add a little interest and layering to my background. The gray looked too dull to me and I like the noise and texture the stamps added. I colored the
edges of my page with some black paint and I was done.

The title reads: You are not bound by the labels others have put on you. You are free. Only you choose who you are. Only you.

And there you go, another fun mixed media and collage page. My challenge to you this month is to pull out some paper you love and start playing with it. Don't save them for a special occasion, every single day you
live is a special occasion. Use the supplies you love!

A Tip from Naomi: I love this vintage Christmas line! I cut some of the details out of the patterned papers and sewed along the lines of some of the chevron patterned paper. I layered the chipboard shapes, and added paper and date stickers underneath the chipboard tag. I sprayed with a but of Mr Huey's as well.

A Tip from Naomi: I did a lot of stitching and detail cutting of the patterned papers. I hand cut the banner out of paper and decorated and added a title. Last, I added lace under the border of the photo.

A Tip from Naomi:I had fun die-cutting the arrows from the different patterned paper and then sewing and layering them to the layout. i also adhered the pictures with some fun strips of washi tape.

Hanukkah Guest Post - Stacy Cohen

Welcome back to our Hanukkah celebration, MME fans! We are so glad you are back today because we know you won't want to miss today's guest designer.

Meet Stacy Cohen!

I live in Los Angeles, California with my loving husband, our two wonderful little daughters, and two cute kitties.  My girls are the inspiration for all my creative projects . . . I call them my little ‘muses’.  I started scrapbooking in September of 2004 and I have been hooked ever since.  Scrapbooking is my hobby, passion and creative outlet.  I always say, “It’s cheaper than therapy!” 

I’m a very slow scrapper, often spending several nights on one layout.  I love to fuss over all the little details and get everything just right.  I would define my scrapping style as romantic with a touch of shabby chic, though I love to change it up from time to time and play around with different scrapping styles.  My work has been published in Creating Keepsakes, Scrapbooks Etc., Scrapbook Trends, Memory Makers, Somerset Memories, Cards, Simply Handmade, Scrapbook Inspirations, and Scrapbooking m.m.  I have been a Creating Keepsakes Magazine Dream Team member since 2011.  You can visit my blog HERE.

 

Hi everyone!  Stacy Cohen here.  I’m thrilled to be a guest on the MME blog today!!

Hanukkah is in full swing, and my family has been celebrating all week. We follow the tradition of opening at least one present every night during the eight nights of Hanukkah.  That translates into a lot of gift shopping! My daughters are very easy to shop for, but my husband . . . not so much.

Luckily, we started a fun tradition a few years ago.  Rather than get each other big gifts, my husband and I buy eight small Hanukkah gifts for each other - - but the rule is that ALL eight gifts have to be purchased at the 99 Cents Only Store (our local “dollar store”).

The past 99 Cents Only Store gifts have run the gamut from practical and personal to downright hilarious. I’ve received items like scrapbooking embellishments, a picture frame, a jar of green olives, and a tube of toothpaste (not my regular brand, unfortunately).  I’ve given my husband gifts such as tools, a flashlight, superhero tattoos, car freshener (his car really needs it), and socks (he actually loves those socks).  One thing is for sure: our 99 Cents Only Store gift exchange always results in lots of laughter in our house!

Of course, a very special part of our Hanukkah celebration is lighting the menorah.  I created a layout showcasing candle-lighting pictures from last Hanukkah.  I used the stunning Lost & Found 3 - Oliver collection.  The gorgeous blues and golds are absolutely perfect for Hanukkah photos.

I created the rays using a mix of the lovely Oliver patterned papers, then I cut out Jewish stars and raised them with pop dots.


Our Hanukkah celebration wouldn’t be complete without some lively rounds of dreidel. 

It’s basically a spinning top game where the participants play to win “gelt” (chocolate coins). As you can see in this layout, when we don’t have enough gelt on hand, we simply substitute Hershey’s kisses. 

I used the doily stickers to represent the round-and-round spinning motion of the dreidel.

I also had the pleasure of the playing with the beautiful Winter Wonderland collection.  This collection isn’t just for Christmas!  I used the papers to make this Hanukkah card.

Hanukkah Guest Post- Vivian Masket

Good morning everyone! Today is part 1 of a two part series I've very excited about. I wanted to celebrate Hanukkah here on the MME blog. I invited two of my favorite designers to join us for a two day series of guest posts.

I am so excited to share their work and thoughts with you and I want to thank them for graciously joining us this month.

Today's guest poster is Vivian Masket!

My name is Vivian Masket, I live in Denver, Colorado, and I am addicted to color. I'm a clean and simple scrapper who loves combining colorful patterned papers with neutral backgrounds and unexpected or whimsical touches. My work has been published in many papercrafting magazines and idea books. When I'm not scrapbooking or making cards, I spend time with my family, work as an instructional coach for my local school district, and immerse myself in my other major hobby: cooking. I loved having the opportunity to work with My Mind's Eye products - the colors and textures are absolutely gorgeous!

  For us, Hanukkah is a time to slow down and spend time together as a family and with friends.

It's also a time to throw dietary caution to the wind and connect with our ancestors by cooking and eating traditional foods associated with the holiday.

We always have brisket and latkes (potato pancakes), but have fun experimenting with those culinary traditions. For example, at my daughter's request, we have planned a parsnip latke night this year.

Now that my kids are both in elementary school, they are in charge of the lighting the candles in the menorahs each night. We turn out the lights and take a few minutes in the glow of the candles before exchanging gifts. Even though Hanukkah lasts for eight days and eight nights, it's over all too soon!

The Lost & Found 3 Oliver collection is perfect for Hanukkah with its muted blue, cream, and yellow color palette with touches of gold.

I used this collection to create both an eight-tag set and a layout. The eight tags combine patterned paper and embellishments and are unified by the repetition of die-cut number words and banner elements.

This tag set is perfect for gift-giving, for use as a Hanukkah calendar, or as I intend to use it, for a mini album.

The layout makes use of leftover banner shapes I cut for the tags, and combines various horizontal strips of textured and patterned papers in a simple design.
