Cut and Paste Cards with Danni

Good morning!  Danni here with you today.

I was so excited to receive my DT box filled with all of the gorgeous new Cut and Paste lines.  I am loving all the fun, playful patterns in these lines...the colors are so incredibly awesome for every day life.

I wanted to create a couple of cards today and some back to school notecards for my kids.  I love all the new elements and embellishments, they make creating so easy.

On my first card, You Make Me Happy, I adhered chipboard to the already fun "cloud" paper and came up with a relatively quick and easy card to tell that special someone what you think of them.

On my second card, Hello, I wanted to emphasize these cool layered stickers, I love these florals on this sheet so much and had a blast stitching and layering this sweet card.

This next card was created with the Hey You journal card and these FUN tiny word stickers, love these so much.  I created this card for my daughter who was starting middle school this year and it was fun to create a playful card for her first day.

The next notecard, Sweet Child of Mine, was for my youngest son for his lunchbox on his first day, I love the 6 x 6 pads for creating cards, but this notecard came together so quickly using the new Cut and Paste pad.

On my final card, Extra Special, I wanted to create a more masculine, simple card for my older son and this fun sentiment Extra Special, made it so easy.  To tone down the possibility of his friends seeing the sentiment, I adhered some vellum over the top and stitched, still allowing the sentiment to peek through.

Danni says:  When perusing the board this month, I came to this incredible card by Laura Craigie.  I absolutely love her card with it's strips of patterned papers, enamel dots and amazing stitching.  I was inspired to create a card with strips, fun stitching and of course enamel dots.

Isn't it beautiful, soft and "sweet"?  I just love how the stitching adds so much to her card.I wanted to use her creative stitching to enhance elements in the new Find Your Wings and Fly Up and Away line.  I love how soft and beautiful this line is.

I wanted to keep the three button element as an embellie and thought the decorative brads would look beautiful layered here.  I also chose to stitch the "tickets" on the paper to add softness to the paper as Laura had done in her card.  Laura created a beautiful sentiment on her card using word stickers, in a beautiful font, and I considered creating a similar one, but this layered sticker in the line is one of my favorites and I had to use it.  She also added a stamped floral image and to keep with the stamping on my card added the "top priority" stamp from this line also.

I love Pinspiration Fridays! It's so much fun to look through the inspiration on the My Mind's Eye Inspiring Pages and Cards Board (and find a new style to "try on" for a day. This month I chose this amazing page by Jodi Wilton.

I loved the way Jodi placed her photos and elements inside squares and then highlighted the main photo with the dovetailed strips of paper. I also love that this is a design that I could replicate using a 6 x 6 paper pad. Here is my take on Jodi's layout using the Find Your Wings and Fly "Up and Away" collection..

 

I love clustering pennants together lately and added a few to the top of the page here:

 

I followed Jodi's lead  and embellished the squares on my page in a similar fashion. I love all the different levels these little bits add.

 

On the bottom of the page I layered two paper strips together along with a label handcut from one of the 6 x 6 papers.

 

 

Something Wonderful...

Good morning, Danni here with you to share a card using the gorgeous papers and embellies from Kate & Co. Cambridge Court line.  I love all the patterns, colors and texture of this line and it makes creating cards so fun and seamless.

The enamel dots, chipboard pieces, brads and label tags in this line are so fun to layer, they have such beautiful patterns that flow together easily and give the eye so much to take in. 

Clustering is such a simple and sweet way to add visual interest to a card or layout. It takes virtually no time at all but looks much more complicated than it really is.

MME enamel dots, brads, chipboard, and stickers work together effortlessly!

Fourth of July Cards with Danni

Good morning, Danni here with you to share a couple of cards to celebrate the Fourth of July.  I created three different cards using similar supplies from the MME Kate & Co. Oxford line and Collectable line with some washi tape, punches and my Cameo.  I used the Red and Black Decorative tapes to create my red and white stripes for the cards and love how fun this tape is.

  On my first card, Stars, i created a banner strip using the red stripe designer tape on some heavy vellum.  The banner strip paired with the Collectable "Remarkable" was easy to layer with the fun buttons, brads and enamel dots in the Kate & Co. Oxford line and bring the mid-western feel to the holiday.

On my second card, Star & Stripes, I created an Uncle Sam hat using the red stripe designer tape on vellum paired with the Kate & Co. Oxford Lane Triples paper.  I cut the sentiment using my Cameo and added the fun ampersand brad to finish the "star and stripe" sentiment.

On my last card, Happy, I die-cut a little envelope and layered it onto a poloroid frame cut with my Cameo.  I adhered vellum to the back side so you could still see the fun dots behind it and then adhered lots of various hearts and a star coming out of the envelope.

Inspiration Piece: Valerie O'Neall 

Danni's version:

Danni says: I chose this absolutely beautiful canvas from Valerie O'Neall because I loved the scattering of embellishments.

On my card, I created my background block of paper using my Tim Holtz ink blender, white cardstock and Papertrey Inks.  I started with PTI Spring Moss and blended it over a block of PTI Stamper's Select cardstock.  After blending the Spring Moss ink, I lightly blended some Fresh Snow ink over the top  and then blended a light coat of Spring Moss. 

The gorgeous embellishments from the Kate & Co. Cambridge Court line make creating the scatter of embellies easy and fun.  I absolutely love the chipboard embellies in this line, especially this polaroid frame, I love to stitch the frame and then layer it. The colors in this line are so feminine, beautiful and happy!

Inspiration Piece: Michelle Unruh

Tamara's version:

Tamara says:I was so inspired by this beautiful washi tape birthday card by Michelle Unruh. I really liked her mix of patterns and how she placed the decorative tapes at an angle.

For my layout, I wanted the decorative tapes to be the main focus and to create the "patterned paper" for my layout.  I pulled the colors from the photos and used 3 different patterns of the 5 colors: black, blue, grey, red, and yellow.  I placed the decorative tapes in a chevron pattern - it echoes the interlocking lego bricks in the photos. 

Tip:  Place the decorative tapes on a white piece of paper, overlapping the ends.Trim the excess with an Exacto knife and wrap the ends around to the back.

I LOVE the variety of tape colors and patterns that MME has created in their decorative tape sets.  They coordinate with virtually every page! 

I rounded the corners of the yellow paper - as Michelle rounded two corners of her card.  I used a strip of navy blue chevron tape along the bottom of the page and provide a place to "anchor" the chipboard title.

Father's Day Cards by Danni

Good morning!  Danni here with you today to share a couple of different interpretations of Father's Day cards to celebrate those special men in your life.  Whether you are celebrating a father, step dad, dad, grandpa, uncle, or special neighbor, My Mind's Eye has created gorgeous papers and embellies that can help you create the perfect, personalized card for your loved one.

On my first card, All Star Dad, I wanted to play with these fun high top sneakers from the Boy Crazy stamp set. I stamped them onto cardstock repeatedly, cut them out, adhered with 3-D tape and cut the "star circles" from an additional image and adhered using 3-D tape.

 I have been waiting to play with these and this opportunity seemed perfect.  My husband coaches one of my sons and runs my kids to practices and is just an ALL STAR Dad in my book.

On my second card, Dad, I wanted to play with this fun cardstock Cameo mustache negative that I had in my stash and the papers in the Collectable 6 x 6 pad are perfect for masculine cards.  The rich browns, blues, yellow and reds are so fun to play with.  This card is also perfect for creating cards for someone other than a "Dad" in the truest sense, the sentiment changes easily and can celebrate the men in your life.

On my last card, Perfect, I HAD to break out my mustache tape from the Find Your Wings and Fly line.  I love this tape, a LOT, and will be using again.  I adhered my tape to a tag, stitched and layered with this cute mustache sticker and sentiment from the line. 

The Alpha and Word stickers from the line are perfect to add the extra little sentiment touches to your cards to make them very personalized.

Tonya says:These were colors that I would have probably never thought to have put together, but I love the result! It was so much fun to go through all of the collections I had on hand and pull stuff that fit the color scheme. I was super excited about the little bits of gold in the inspiration piece. I've been wanting to add gold to a project for a while and this was just the little nudge that I needed.

Danni says:I am really excited to be able to create for this post as I love color/inspiration pieces, they are challenging and oh so fun.  I decided for my cards to create two cards using similar supplies, but offering two different interpretations using those supplies.

On my first Hello card,  I was inspired by not only the colors but also the stripes in the inspiration collage, I love the sentiment script and heart element and wanted to use it as a focal.  I chose to use the stripes as a springboard and splash color for a bold contrast.

Danni says:On my second Hello card, I was inspired by the color and  the "do it with passion" black/white inspiration piece.  I wanted to create a repeated, bold, scripted sentiment with the black/white script.  The Find Your Wings and Fly Up & Away decorative stamps are so perfect for adding those special sentiments to you projects or highlighting as a focal.

May Flowers! Cards by Danni

Good morning, Danni here with you today to share some of the most gorgeous floral patterns in the new Find Your Wings and Fly line.  I created three cards using this line with various stickers, chipboard embellishments, and layered stickers.

 On my first card, Admit One, I wanted to use the gorgeous chipboard floral embellishment, layering it with the chipboard and a ticket cut from Admit One patterned paper, I can not tell you how much I love this paper, it's so fun to layer.  

Supplies: Find Your Wings and Fly:paper kit, Up and Away chipboard, enamel dots 

Misc:  Bazzill cardstock, hand stitching

On my second card, Hey There, I wanted to use this beautiful floral chipboard piece, paired with the "Hey There" chipboard.  I didn't want to overwhelm the chipboard pattern so I decided to keep the embellishments to a minimum.

On my third card, Bloom Where You are Planted, the gorgeous Up and Away Layered sticker flower was absolutely gorgeous to embellish a card.  This was a 5 step card and the results look like it took a lot longer, the perfect embellishment!

Tonya says:I was really drawn to the clean and simple design of Melissa's layout. I simply decided to use her layout as a sketch and then added a few little extra details. As you can see I kept her grid of four squares. Loved the way that she had the photo just a touch bigger than the other three squares, I just placed my photo at a bit of a slant so that it coordinated with the strips at the bottom that I also placed at a bit of a slant. 

Instead of the little banner piece that she placed in the upper left hand corner I used the felt rocket. For the vapor trail on the rocket I simply stitched it with my sewing machine and then embellished it with little tiny die cut stars. Just as Melissa did I cut my title out of one of the squares, I then backed my letters with glitter to make them stand out against the busy zigzag paper.

Inspiration Piece: Danielle Higginbottom-Brown

 

Danni's Interpretation and Thoughts:The design of this layout is so eye-catching and fun and I was instantly inspired.  She is incredibly talented and there are so many details on this page while still looking very clean and beautiful.I was inspired by Danielle's design on her layout.  From the circle elements, to the separating of the top and bottom panels, to the positioning of the title,  it is just a fantastic design for layouts and cards alike. 

I decided to interpret her layout design into a card sketch in Photoshop and love the results. This will be a go-to sketch for me in future designs, I just love the many possibilities.

I could not stop at one card with this fun design and know that you, too, will be inspired to pull out your supplies and create.

On my first card, Fabulous, I chose to cut the Find Your Wings-Up and Away Paper Kit Strip to create the little quilt swatches.  I love that there are strips of the patterned papers in the kit altogether right on the front panel, swoon!

After cutting the quilt swatches I layered  them with enamel dots, stitches, brads, and layered stickers.  The new Alpha and Word stickers in this line are so fun and I loved the fabulous sticker for the sentiment on this card.

On my second card, Ticket No. 3, I chose to interpret the circle elements as butterflies.  I tried to stay true to the design using an upper and lower block of patterned paper separated with scallop trim.  I chose to use the beautiful enamel dots in this line as well as hand-stitches to embellish the butterflies.

On my last card, I chose to be a little more liberal with my interpretation, only creating 3 circle elements in a row.  I wanted to create a card to layer the cute Admit One ticket paper in this line.  The flowers were cut with my Cameo and then I layered them on tickets.  I layered the tickets with scallops, leaves, and enamel dots. 

All three of these cards were completely inspired by an incredibly designed layout.  The next time you like the design of a layout, try sketching out the elements that inspire you and use them to design a card or two after your layout.

Inspiration Piece: Missy Whidden

I loved this layout by Missy Whidden. I loved the fun colors, the great photo, and especially the Sunburst design element.

I really wanted to take the sunburst design element and expand on the idea for my layout.  I started by cutting a large Sunburst shape with my Cameo and adhering it to my background.  Next, using a diagonal design 6x6 paper sheet, I placed the paper with the diagonals going in the same direction as the Sunburst shape. Lastly, I digitally cut a smaller Sunburst shape and placed it on top of the diagonal paper.  With these 3 elements, I created movement on the page to create an overall Sunburst design.

May Sketch Challenge!

 

Hey everyone! Ronda here with your May sketch.

This fun sketch can be used for a layout or cards.  Start off with scattering scraps or tiny shapes in the background and then stitch some lines both vertically and horizontally.  Frame your photo, object, or saying on a piece of patterned paper to ground it.  Add the title to the bottom right of the photo and then journal around the outer edged of the page. 

Supplies: Find Your Wings and Fly-Sky’s the Limit :Layered Ephemera Paper; Find Your Wings and Fly-Up & Away:  Be Awesome Paper, Krafty Floral Paper, Admit One Paper, Mixed Media Paper, Quatrefoil Paper, Sticker Accessories, Enamel Dots, Alpha/Word Stickers; Misc: black pen, vintage thread, American Crafts Thickers, Maya Road Spray ink, Liquitex Gel Medium

I was so anxious to play with the new lines of Find Your Wings and Fly that I had to use bits & pieces on my background.  I started off with cutting out the tickets found on the Admit One paper.  I placed them on the nice neutral background from the Sky’s the Limit Layered Ephemera Paper.  I love how compatible these lines are to use. 

 After placing the papers around the page, I added stickers to fill in the gaps.  I then stitched three vertical lines and 2 horizontal lines.  I then sprinkled some spray ink over the papers and the background. 

I added some matte medium onto the page and placed my vintage thread on top of the patterned paper.  I love leaving it loopy. 

You can stitch through the stickers too! I added the enamel dots to complete the page and to add pops of color.  Lastly I journaled around the edge of the page, telling my story. 

This month I asked Danni to join me in the sketch challenge. I thought it would be fun to show all of you how to easily translate the sketch to a card!

On my first card, So Much Fun with You , I was excited to play with the chipboard glasses and mustache.  These are so cute and so much fun and this sketch proved perfect to pair the two together.

On my second card, Hello, I dry-embossed the background, stitched the lines as shown in her sketch and used these cute stickers as my focals.

On my last card, Oh So Sweet on You, I chose to use the pinstripe patterned paper and cute a block for the focal with enamel dots and brads for the scattered blocks.
