Wood Veneer…the Multi-Tasker

Hi all, this is Tonya with you here today. With the release of the Record It collection came a new embellishment from My Mind's Eye, wood veneer. After seeing this video by the über talented Jennifer McGuire on how to achieve the look of letterpress using your wood veneer I decided I had to give it a go! These first three cards were all made using the same piece of wood veneer.

The first card I kept very simple and basic. Since I used just the bare wood veneer with plain watercolor paper I really didn't want anything to over power the all white letterpress panel.

For this next card I inked up the front of the wood veneer with a soft sea foam green pigment ink and then around the edges I inked it again using a darker teal color. Then ran it through my die cutting machine on a piece of watercolor paper.

This next card is the result of the wood veneer after it had been inked up for the previous card. I just let the pigment inks dry for a couple of hours before handling the card. I backed the open heart with some lime green glitter. That little strip of connected hearts was fussy cut out of one of the journaling cards in the journaling kit.

I have one last card for you. I made this one a while ago for a friend's birthday. To achieve the look on this wood veneer piece I first used watercolor paints to apply color to the veneer. After that dried I ran it through my Xyron machine to evenly apply a thin layer of adhesive to the front of the wooden piece. Lastly a layer of glitter on top for the final look! It really changes the look of the wood and makes it a sight to behold!

I am loving the versatility of wood veneer. It's one of those products that can really be used over and over before it is committed to it's final project. You can keep it raw and organic or you can add some pizazz with colors and glitter. I think the possibilities really are endless!

Teacher Cards

Hi everyone, Laurel here. As a teacher I was quite happy to get the assignment of teacher cards! I am a sucker for anything school related and that includes notebook or ledger type of paper.

One thing I love to is use non-themed collections for themed cards and I thought the Now and Then collections would work perfectly for this assignment. I started with the Now and Then Milo collection to create a couple of simple masculine cards.

Supplies:Now & Then- Milo:  6 X 6 pad; Friends Accent Stickers; Documented Chipboard; Now & Then-Izzy: 6 X 6 pad; Good Times 3 X 4 pack; Cut & Paste- Flair: 6 X 6 pad; Today 5X7 Sticker Sheet; Wow Chipboard Stickers

Easy to do with layering of the paper, chipboard and stickers. I then chose to create a card using the Now and Then Izzy as I thought the map paper would be perfect for a teacher card.

I put my Silhouette to work and die cut an apple and a frame for this fun card and once again went to work layering. I thought I was done but then the Cut & Paste Flair was calling my name so I dug into it as well.

I love how easily I could create these teacher cards with the MME products. It goes to show how far a collection can go!

Cut and Paste Cards

Hi everyone, Laurel here today.  I am loving the hashtag trend popping up everywhere.  The Cut & Paste Presh collection is so fun to work with.  I love the colors and of course the fun patterns.

 

 

I decided to create some teen themed cards as my youngest daughter just turned 16 and my nieces and nephews are not far behind!  I created a couple of simple cards because I wanted the fun paper to take center stage. 

 

The ‘cell phone’ is mounted on foam tape for dimension and lately nothing seems finished to me without stitching or staples – today was a staple day.

 

Love the diversity of MME 6x6 pads. They make my cardmaking projects so easy!

Creative Card Ideas

 Hello everyone! Valerie here today...and I'm sharing some creative card ideas with you.

For the background of this  card (made using the Lost and Found Record It- Heirloom collection) , I used torn strips of a page from an old book and then placed a pretty journal card on top. I used a couple heart stickers from Cupid’s Arrow and a couple more from Lost & Found as embellishments then added a couple rows of glittery enamel dots. So pretty!

What a perfect messy misted background this one has! I sprayed my mask with various shades of pink and then “stamped” it onto my card.

A piece of wide lace trim was adhered with a line of hot glue and then my sentiment (from Cut & Paste Adorbs stamp set) was added on top. Next I sewed on a row of chipboard banners—one from Chalk Studio and the other two from the Cut & Paste collection—then added a brad and button.

I love stamping with chalk ink on kraft paper. It’s what I did here with a sentiment stamp from the Find Your Wings & Fly stamp set and an arrow from the Cut & Paste Flair set. That chevron paper is my favorite.

One of my favorite techniques is to combine strips of decorative tape to create backgrounds. I used the decorative tape from the Lost & Found Record It collection and topped it with bits from the ephemera packs and a couple of word stickers.

Project Life with Shelly | February 2013

 

Hello everyone! This is Shelly with some Project Life inspiration. Today I am featuring an average week in the life using the bold Cut & Paste Collection.

This week I was really inspired to use the “Tell me a Story” Journaling Card from the Adorbs Cut & Paste Collection. I have been itching to use it from the first time I saw it, but it just never seemed to work for my week.

I know there wasn’t much pink in my pictures, but that just didn’t matter to me. I absolutely love the pink and navy combo that Adorbs brings to the table. The space on the card was perfect for a brief overview of our week’s adventures.


To create that cute little tag over the picture of my son playing, I pulled out the 6x6 paper pad and my tag punch. The punch was a perfect fit for the journaling cards in mini form.

For the right side, I filled in an open 4x6 using the “Loved” 4x6 Journal Card. Those angled stripes of color just put a smile on my face.

I embellished a little with some of my favorite tiny word stickers, label, decorative tape, and a button to jazz up that heart card.

That wraps up another edition of Project Life My Mind’s Eye style. I am really excited to get my hands on the brand new collections! Using 6x6 Pads on Layouts

Happy Tuesday everyone! Tamara here.

 

6x6 Pads have become on of my favorite design tools.  In fact - when I start a layout, I always reach for the 6x6 first - for a few reasons.

1. They are pre-cut to a smaller size.  Have you ever stared at a beautiful 12x12 piece of paper, afraid to cut it?  What if you cut the wrong size and now don't have the right amount for your layout?  What if you cut the striped paper the wrong direction and now it doesn't work with your layout?

 

The smaller 6x6 papers have already been cut down for you.  Since every pad comes with two of each paper, you can lay two of the same pattern next to each other to get a 6x12 strip.

 

2. Perfect for quickly matting photos.

 

3. Smaller patterns.

 

4. Bonus papers! Our 12x12 paper lines have 10 double sided papers, while the 6x6 pad has 12!  You you get Four BONUS papers that often have solid colors and fun new patterns!!!

 

Supplies: Cut & Paste - Presh: Trendy patterned paper, Treasures paper (title card), 6x6 pad, journal cards, decorative tape, enamel shapes, brad, enamel dots, label stickers, chipboard, layered sticker; Grey & Yellow Decorative tape set; Misc: Navy blue thread, black ink and pen.

 

 

Other than the background paper, I only used a 6x6 pad on this layout.  It went together remarkably quickly since I was moving around smaller pieces of paper.  It was easy to tuck, move, and layer papers.

 

I matched up the red chevron pattern and layered two halves of the paper to create the base of my page.  You hardly notice the seam.

For the solid grey strip, I trimmed a piece from the 4x6 journal card, and cut it into two pieces - tucking them under the photo and title.

 

I embellished the laout with chipboard, stickers, enamel dots, and a brad.  Aren't the giant enamel dot shaped quotes fabulous?  They really made my title pop!

It was fun to FINALLY scrapbook this photo of my son, taken almost 9 years ago. He turns 16 in a few months.  It is refreshing to use older photos and take a trip down memory lane. :)

 

 

Winter Cards

Good morning.  While most of the country is in deep freeze and the coldest of temperatures, we've been experiencing drought and a dry, warm winter (so far).  So today, it was a lot of fun to create these two cards while thinking (and dreaming) of snow and precipitation. 

 

I especially had fun with the "Hooray Winter" card, it actually made me kinda giggle just thinking about the possibility.  I chose to use my Cameo and cut a large snowflake for one of the cards and then used the negative on my other. 

 

For the cards today, I pulled out Jen Allyson's Cut and Paste Charm line.  While not a traditional, themey, winter line, it has lots of blues and greys and was fun to use for my cards today.

Introducing our January Guest Designer!

Please help us extend a warm welcome to our January guest designer...Nicole Samuels!

Nicole lives in Virginia with her husband and 4 children, ages 10 to 4.  She discovered scrapbooking more than 10 years ago after receiving some supplies as a gift and immediately fell in love with this hobby as both a creative outlet and a way to document life's sweetest moments.  

She's been fortunate to design for several scrapbooking manufacturers, teach at both local stores and conventions, and be published in various print and digital paper crafting magazines.  Nicole currently designs for Studio Calico.  In addition to scrapbooking, she enjoys reading, being outdoors, spending time with her family, and practicing photography.  You can follow Nicole on her blog or on Facebook.

Q: What is your fave MME collection of all time?

 

A: Ok, this is really going to date me and show just how long I've been scrapbooking, but my favorite MME line would have to be Wild Asparagus.  I think I bought EVERY last piece of that collection when it was new and I still am hoarding some of it.  It's not even my scrapbooking style anymore, but I have such fond memories of it and loving it so much that I still keep it.  :)

Q: What did you enjoy working with the most?  

A: I think the patterned paper from MME is the best and what I enjoyed using the most. The designs are always so easy to work with and the colors are just gorgeous.

Nicole says: I wanted to fit a lot of photos on this page, so I used a template that allowed me to just drag and drop them in using Photoshop.  I print the photo grid on a 8.5x11 sheet of photo paper and attached the whole sheet to my page.  I added patterned paper squares to fill in some empty grid spaces and to add some color.  Finally I used a button for a sun, adding in some hand stitched sun rays for some texture.

Nicole says:I was drawn to the "Alpha Love" paper right away and knew I wanted to use it as the background of my layout.  However, the photo and title of the page seemed to get a little overwhelmed by the bold letters on the background.  

To solve that problem I cut out some vellum in the shape of the die cut heart and layered it over the background.  This helped to make the photo and title take center stage. The scalloped heart and "valentine" cut designs are available for free download on my blog!

 

We are in LOVE with these layouts, aren't you? Nicole is an amazing scrapbook designer and we are overjoyed she joined us this month.

This week I was inspired by all of the primary colors in my pictures. I grabbed a mix of Cut & Paste that had blues, yellows, and reds. These colors were also a perfect fit because this just happened to be the same week in which we picked out and decorated our Christmas tree. I documented that fun event last month HERE.

I kept things super simple with my title card. I simply added a label sticker from the Mistletoe Magic Collection’s sticker accessory sheet to the Special Journal Card. Have I told you lately how much I really love those cards?! They are so simple and cute.

The journaling was kept brief and simple by using my computer. I shared my process of how I do this last year. You can find it HERE and HERE. I also embellished a couple of my pictures using the awesome Tiny Word Stickers. Those things are the perfect little touch to any project life page.

 

I brought that same red chevron print to the right side of my layout by using it as the background of the pocket that is holding my receipt. I just added a little label sticker from the Merry Mistletoe Collection’s sticker accessory sheet. It is actually part of the large pretty flourish label found in the center of the sheet. I needed a small label, so I simply used my scissors and trimmed the flourish off of it. It was the perfect addition for some quick journaling.

National Clean Off Your Desk Day

Happy Monday everyone!

This is Laurel and I'm here to share a really fun idea with you today. Did you know it is National Clean Off Your Desk Day?

It is!

And I don't know about all of you...but my desk could definitely use a good cleaning. I challenged myself to clean off my desk today (and to use things from my desk to make a project!).

I am very bad (or good depending on how you look at it) at saving scraps that I am sure others would throw out.  Well I put them to work today.  You will see some bits and pieces here and there including pieces with circles punched out of them. 

Many of those pieces were leftover from other projects and I knew they may come in handy as layering pieces one day.  I then punched some other circles from scraps to layer on top.

Finally I just added bits and pieces of chipboard and stickers until I was happy with it.  I love how it turned out, and even more happy that some of my scraps got used up!”
