Bow Christmas Decor

Hi!  Tina here today with a project to get your home in the holiday spirit in no time at all.

Supplies: Sleigh Bells Ring -Bows, Flair, Decorative Tape; Misc: Wire Frame - Michaels Adhesive: Tombow (liquid), Scortape

Sleigh Bells Ring is a beautiful, classic Christmas collection. Included in the collection is a package of ready to make paper bows. Following the directions on the package, I assembled several of the bows and adhered them to my wire frame. I added a bit of wet adhesive to the back of each bow so they would stay attached to the wire frame.

I added a piece of flair from the Sleigh Bells ring collection to each bow for more whimsy.

My wire frame included a basic white frame, but I wanted to dress it up a bit.  So I added decorative tape to the edges.  This is one of my favorite ways to dress up simple and plain frames.

This project is great because you can re-use the frame after the holiday for future projects.  What a great way to re-use and re-purpose.

November Sketch Challenge

 

It's sketch time again! I am here today to share with you a fun layout with many tiny layers. There are two photos but turn that one larger photo into two smallers ones.  There's a large circle underneath the photo which could be patterned paper, paint, ink, etc!  

I added lots of little layers, like triangles, arrows, circles, and banners.  The important thing about adding little layers is grouping them together, overlapping on occassion. 

Remember...you are interpreting the sketch so feel free to rotate the sketch or change out the one photo for multiple photos.  Envision the pieces and see how you can make the sketch your own with embellishments, paint, patterned paper, and other wonderful My Mind's Eye products.

I had a lot of fun creating this layout! I started with the big circle on the background. I used a variety of distress inks and archival inks with the stencil. I added another stencil layer over top using black ink.  I then layered the patterned paper on the background and placed my photos on top. I cut the background and layered it on the patterned paper to have that pop of woodgrain at the top.  

I then began all the small layers on top of the photos.  First i placed the "hello" journal card over the top of the photo of my darling grandbaby. I like the layers to touch to ground them.  

Repeating elements are also a good design element. I repeated elements like triangles, arrows, circles, and banners.  Here you can see the circles overlapping.  

I also repeated colors around my page using the "flair" as my inspiration. Black is also grounding so you can see it scattered around my page.  I love the big bold title of "1 2 3 Love" around the page.  I finished my page with a little journaling around the title!

Halloween Tags

 

Hi there! It's Ronda here today to share with you three boo-tiful halloween tags.  

I love this time of year and especially love creating tags for this season. Tags are a great little project to get your creative juices flowing. I like to hang them up together as decoration and then use them either on my layouts or all together in a mini album.  

Supplies:  Frightful: Frightful Words Paper, Mixed Bag, Decorative Brads, Chipboard, Other: Ranger Ink Wakley Media Paint, Golden Paints, Uniball Vision Black Pen. 

On the Little Monsters tag I painted the background purple. I like using pops of color with the typical orange & blacks.  Purple is definitely one of my favorites to pair with those colors.  Once my background was dried, I layered the frightful words paper on top, ripping the bottom edge to expose the purple.  I added some burnt orange paint to the paper and then began layering my elements.  

 

Those witch legs are so stinking cute paired with the banner! I wanted to bring some of the black color to the top so I added the little monsters banner along with the 31 pennant and two chipboard bats.  The pumpkin brad looks great as the final pop of color.

On this 31 tag I also started with a pop of color, a dark turquoise.  I mixed the turquoise with a little bit of white paint to break up the dark color.  I grabbed my 6x6 paper pad and picked out this frightful piece of patterned paper to layer on top.  The white against the turquoise really stands out. 

 

I didn't think this tag needed much more so i just layered a few pieces here and there.  The sticker arrow to the top is paired with the fun spider.  

Did you notice there are three around the page? Three is always a good number in design.  I adore the giant sparkling 31 chipboard frame so I made it my focal point of this tag.  I love that it echoes the design of the patterned paper.  I finished the tag with the chipboard "October 31," adding that touch of white to the bottom.  

Supplies:  Frightful: 6x6 Paper Pad, Mixed Bag, Decorative Brads, Chipboard, Stickers, Enamel DotsOther: Ranger Ink Wakley Media Paint, Uniball Vision Black Pen. 

The Boo Crew tag is all about pairing patterned paper.  Again I went to my 6x6 patterned paper pad and pulled out a few sheets.  I wanted an orange base without too busy of a pattern so this orange chevron was perfect.  Next I layered the same pattterned paper in three different strips across the top of the tag.  By using the front & the back of the paper plus adding some purple paint, I really changed up the look and stretched my paper.  

I created a rosette "flower" out of patterned paper in a simple white & black design.  I added the brad circle on top changing out the small brad for a larger one. Don't be afraid to change up these fabulous brads to suit your design esthetics. I then added another brad element and a sticker circle design to the background before adding my rosette piece on top.  

The enamel dots around the page add that perfect pop of color and reinforce my circle elements around the page.

Tonya's Take on Chipboard Week

Good morning My Mind's Eye fans! Tonya here to wrap up Chipboard Week.

As you all might know, each collection comes with a 12x12 sheet chock full of lovely chipboard pieces. The Jubillee Wild Berry line has quite a few chipboard hearts in it's designs and since this layout has all four of my kiddos in the photo I thought that they would make the perfect embellishment.

Supplies: Jubilee-Wild Berry: "Wonder" Chipboard Elements, 6x6 Designer Paper Pad, "Hey You" Journal Cards, " Hey You" Rub Ons, "Life" Mixed Bag, "Today" Enamel Shapes, "Love" Decorative Brads,Decorative Tape Sets- Pink/Yellow, Lost & Found Record It- "Antique" Alpha & Word Stickers.

This cluster of embellishments has a die cut from the journal cards, some rub ons, die cuts from the mixed bag, enamel shapes  and a scattering of chipboard hearts.

 

For this next cluster I used one of the chipboard frame pieces and backed it with one of the solid papers and then used it for journaling.

 

 Lastly, a tiny little chipboard heart frame with a tiny little enamel heart nestled inside.

 

The next time you are looking for the perfect embellishment check out one of large sheets of chipboard pieces, with the variety offered on each sheet you surely can find something to suit your needs.

Valerie's Take on Chipboard Week

Hello! Valerie here continuing on with chipboard week. What a great week of projects, right!? Today I’m sharing an 8 x 10 inch canvas that I embellished with My Mind’s Eye chipboard elements. I looked through my entire stash and mixed and matched from a variety of different collections (Jubilee, Market Street, Now & Then, and Chalk Studio).

Supplies: Jubilee: Mint Julep, Sherbet, and Wild Berry chipboard elements. Market Street: Ashbury Heights and Nob Hill chipboard elements.Now and Then: Mildred and Dorothy chipboard elements. Chalk Studio chipboard elements. Other: 8x10 canvas, mini clothespin, hot glue.

 

I love the challenge and the hunt of mixing and matching. It’s fun to sort through my stash and pull out pieces I think will coordinate well for the project I have in mind. I’ve been on a canvas “kick” lately. I could stand at my scrap desk all day and make projects like this on canvas. 

 

Last time I created a canvas project, I did a lot of work with spray inks for a more colorful, mixed media background. This time I kept it sweet and simple. Just arranging the elements until I found a grouping I liked and hot glued them down. I love the thickness of the chipboard and how it adds just the right amount of dimension. I really feel like it’s finished and complete and doesn’t need anything else. Not even a couple enamel dots, even though I did consider it.

 

 

So easy, right?! Don’t be intimidated by a blank canvas, and don’t be afraid to use only one type of embellishment to create something lovely. 

 

Missy's Take on Chipboard Week

Hey there!  Missy here with you today for Chipboard Week!  I was so excited to create a layout focusing on the awesome MME chipboard!  I decided to work with the beautiful Jubliee Sherbet collection. 

I wanted to showcase all the pretty and soft colors in this line, so I cut various strips of lots of the patterned papers and sewed them down with silver thread. 

I just finally purchased a sewing machine and taught myself how to stitch, and I’m so glad I did.  After adhering all the strips down, I pulled out the Chipboard Elements and embellished with lots of pieces.  The flowers are so pretty, and I love the “happy” sentiment.  I love that they add such great texture and color to the layout.

Here you can see some of the chipboard pieces up close.  You can also get a closer look at the modeling paste and paint I used in the background.  I also added in one of my favorite MME products…glitter tape!  I couldn’t resist, and it goes so perfectly with all the other MME goodies on this page.

Here’s another one of the cute little yellow chipboard flowers.  I love that the lines look doodled.  And check out that awesome shiny silver arrow!  I love anything metallic.

Cursive chipboard words…it doesn’t get any better than that, does it?  These are fabulous for helping you with your title.  I didn’t even feel the need to add another one after adhering this piece.

I hope this inspires you to create something awesome with chipboard.  Each of the Jubliee lines and the Just Sayin’ have some really gorgeous pieces!  You definitely should check them out.

Lea's Take on Chipboard Week

Hey there!  Lea here today to celebrate chipboard week on the My Mind's Eye blog!!  We have so many amazing chipboard options to work with for MME, it was definitely hard to narrow it down to what I wanted to use!  After some pondering, I decided that I really wanted to use the chipboard from the Jubilee "Mint Julep" collection, and focused on the banner & super adorable bicycle!

 

Supplies: Jubilee "Mint Julep" collection: 12x12 papers (Wild, Beautiful, Journey), Chipboard Elements, Mixed Bag, Label Stickers, Enamel Shapes, & Decorative Brads.

There is something so sweet & whimsical about the different bicycles that were used throughout these collections, and I just LOVED them!  So, I used similar designs on both of my cards so that I could use as many of them up as possible!  They combined so perfectly with layers of doilies.

My chipboard focus on the first card was the beautiful doily banner.  The banner in full is about 8 inches long, and definitely wouldn't have fit on my card in whole.  So, I cut it in half.  When it was time to add it to my card, I arranged it on the front until it looked just right...then trimmed off the excess.  The plus side - I still have the other half of the banner that I can use on another card later!

For my second card I used the chipboard bicycle, and added a little dimension to the flower basket by adding a matching chipboard flower to the top of it.  I used the same background design for each card, but love how they still look differently from each other. 

I love the dimension that chipboard adds, so don't be afraid to use it on your cards!  While they might cost a little more to ship, it is a small price to pay for the beauty it adds to your design!

Tina's Take on Chipboard Week

Welcome to Chipboard Week, MME fans!  All this week our awesome designers will be sharing inspiring ways to use MME chipboard. WOOHOO! Let's get this party started. Tina's up first!

Hi everyone!  Tina here today to kick off our Chipboard Feature Week!  It is no secret, I LOVE chipboard.  Chipboard has always been my favorite My Mind's product.  The designs and patterns are always the best and I always enjoy creating with them.

Today I thought I would share with you a Mini Tray project, created with our new Frightful Chipboard Element sheet.

 

This project was super easy.  You only several pieces from our new Frightful collection to complete it.  The only cutting needed is for the patterned paper placed in each cubby hole.

 

I layered chipboard elements with Mixed Bag diecuts, using foam tape in places for dimension.  You don't only need to decorate each cubby, you can also add embellishments on the outside and edges.  Fun!!

And just like that, DONE!
