Blog Challenge 28: Layout

Wow! What a fun week it has been sharing our newest releases with you! We hope you have had a chance to enter to win them. If you haven’t, scroll down to the four posts below this one.

The challenge: Design a LAYOUT based on this wonderful sketch and use “FALL” as your theme (sketch by Anam Stubbington).

The rules: Use ANY My Mind’s Eye products (current or past) as long as your project has at least 80% My Mind’s Eye products.

Favorite Fall Photos by Laura Vegas 

Featured Collection: Lime Twist, Alphabet Soup and Lost & Found 2 

I love fall colors, so this challenge was right up my alley. I choose a few favorite photos of me and my daughters, from a few years back, for this fall layout. I went through my stash of My Mind's Eye pattern papers, and choose papers my favorite fall colors. Brown, blue, yellow, orange, and cream. The burlap trim adds lots of texture to the layout, while the buttons add a nice homespun feel to it. I used the transparency photo frame, for a journaling block, and added my journaling strips to the inside. While I had all my papers and embellishments out, I whipped up a quick fall card, using the same elements as my layout (see post below).

Featured Collection: Mischievous 

For this challenge, I decided to pull out some of these fall photos of my oldest daughter. Even though the Mischievous line is a Halloween theme collection, the color palette is perfect to document fall moments, too. I stayed pretty true to the sketch, but added an envelope in place of one of the photos. This envelope was perfect to tuck in my journaling. I love the houndstooth pattern, and punched a hole in the envelope, so this fun pattern peeked through. This helped balance the cluster of circles on the right side of the page. For the final fall detail, I added the beautiful fall bloom onto the envelope, and a bit of the gorgeous burlap ribbon My Mind's Eye added to their product line.

Featured Collection: Mischievous

For this card, I also used the Mischievous line to create a card perfect for welcoming the fall. To soften the card I did add a bit of the shabby blue against the orange backdrop, and a white doily for an extra layer.. I really enjoyed playing with this sketch, and it helped this card come together quickly.

Quick & Easy Valentine Cards

Happy Valentine's Day! Love is definitely in the air! However, with busy schedules maybe there are a few last minutes cards to create! By keeping to one collection, and a few embellishments you can create cards in minutes!

This card uses the adorable Alphabet Soup that is perfect for your sweet little one! I created this card for my son Roman. He is such a sensitive, and caring little guy that truly appreciates my papercrafts. This card will be waiting for him, when he comes home from school today.

My go to size for cards is 6x6, so I used red cardstock as my background. I cut two large hearts, and adhered them on top of the patterned paper. I used two premade embellishments, to finish the card. I did pull in a heart brad from the Stella Rose, Gertie Delightful collection.


This card uses Gertie Delightful  patterned paper from Stella Rose as my background. I pulled in one embellishment for my sentiment. I love creating "ribbon candy", by simply twisting, and turning the ribbon. This simple technique, will turn a flat card into something very special! 


This card uses one patterned paper.(Mabel Little Lady Fine Flowers Paper) One element I love from My Mind's Eye, are the papers are double sided. I chose one for the background, and use a smaller piece as an accent. You can not have Love Day without a doily! By adding this simple element, it became extra special!
I used the premade title for my sentiment! Great for cards, too! I added three roses cut from felt to anchor my sentiment.

Finally, I created the following card with the Turquoise Lush2 Collection. 


I love the color turquoise for Valentine's Day, and this collection is so vibrant! I used one of my journaling spots to hold my sentiment. (Be Mine sentiment I already had in my collection.) The colors were so rich, it needed a bold ribbon. The black, and cream stripe in the Hattie Boy Trims was perfect! It is also a favorite of mine!

All of these cards took me about an hour to complete! I kept the designs simple, and used My Mind's Eye premade embellishments for that homemade touch!

Summertime Swimming: Bethany Kartchner

 

Featured Collection: Alphabet Soup – Boy

I absolutely love the blue wood grain pattern paper in the Alphabet Soup collection and knew that it would be the perfect complement to my swimming pictures. However, once I put the two together, I realized that the color of the pattern paper wasn't exactly right for the color of the water in my pictures. Instead of trying another piece of pattern paper, I decided to use my Shimmerz Pearlz and paint waves of aqua into the pattern paper. (I used the design of the paper as a guide.) Don't be afraid to alter pattern paper to suit your own needs. After all, it belongs to you!  

A few sprays of Shimmerz Spritz and some Pearlz drips helped to tie all the colors in the layout together. I added a bit of Shimmerz Blingz to the adorable chipboard fish because I love a sparkly fish. (Reading Rainbow Fish has forever changed my view of these creatures).

I added a black border to the left side to balance out the off-center design. (I've never been very good at centering things!)

Featured Collection: Alphabet Soup - Girl

Nothing says summertime like a bright juicy popsicle with the sticky juice running down your arm. This page features items from the So Sophie Clever, Alphabet Soup Girl and Lush Blue collections.  I added a digital stamp frame to each photo before cutting them out and adding them to my page. The backs of the Alphabet Soup Girl Playing Cards make fun photo mattes.  I mixed the two different Lush Chipboard Alphabet sticker fonts for interest. To make them cohesive I used Glossy Accents to coat each letter with Aqua Microbeads.
