Hey there! Missy here with you today. Most of my scrapbook layouts are about my two children. I have so many photos of them from over the years, and I just love scrapping our memories with them. For the longest time, I never scrapped about myself. I just thought it was a waste of time and kind of pointless.
But then I thought it might be nice for me to start documenting things about myself from time to time. Maybe my kids will want to see what mom and dad were up to through the years. And I’ve realized that things I do for ME are just as important as scrapping memories of the kids. So every now and then I do create a page about myself and what’s going on or something that means a lot to me.
As I sorted through the Jubliee Mint Julep collection, I saw so many pieces that inspired me to be thankful for what I have. So many times I get down in the dumps about various things, and I have to take a step back and realize that I am a very lucky girl. I was in that frame of mind, so I created this layout. It helped remind me that life IS good, and I do have so many things to be grateful for.
Supplies: Jubilee Mint Julep—“Journey” Fields Paper, “Beautiful” Doily Paper, “Wild” Tribal Paper, 6x6 Paper Pad, “Wild” Enamel Shapes, “Live it Up” Sticky Notes, Chipboard Elements, “Beautiful” Mixed Bag, “Ride” Decorative Brads, “Ride” Label Stickers, “Journey” Rub Ons, “Journey” Journal Cards, “Live it Up” Transparent Frames; Just Sayin’—Alpha & Word Stickers; Necessities—“Metallic Confetti” Vellum Paper; Other—Liquitex Gesso, Crafter’s Workshop stencil, watercolors, Versamark Dazzle Stamp Pad, Recollections Gold Embossing Powder, Hampton Art Stamp, Black Sharpie Pen, sewing machine, black & gold thread.
I started with the “Journey” Fields paper and jazzed it up by adding gesso, modeling paste and watercolors. I love that there are some papers with lots of white space to do this. The gesso fades a lot of the pattern, but you can still see it without it overshadowing the other elements. I built layers under my photo using papers and one of the Transparent Frames. In this close up, you can see that I used a little bit of everything. Pieces from the mixed bag, vellum from the metallics Necessities line, chipboard, brads and label stickers.
I don’t know if you’ve tried the Rub Ons yet, but they are so amazing…and in this line, they’re GOLD! It doesn’t get any better than gold! I added in some machine stitching around the page in black and gold. I also did some heat embossing on my background with gold powder. It did get messy, but I like the way it turned out.
Here’s a tip for big Rub Ons like this one I used as part of my title…rub it on another sheet of paper and then just fussy cut it. I wanted to layer it here on top of the chipboard bicycle, and that wouldn’t have worked very well if I had just tried to rub it on like that. So I adhered it to another paper and cut it out. Plus it gives some dimension. I mixed my title using this and some of the alpha stickers from the Just Sayin’ collection. The color matched perfectly!
I hope this inspires you to create a layout about YOU and the things you love or are going through or just want to document. It’s therapeutic to create about yourself…and years from now, you’ll want to go back and read about what was going on back then! I tend to forget things like this, so it’s nice to get it scrapped.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!
