Lea's Take on Chipboard Week

Hey there!  Lea here today to celebrate chipboard week on the My Mind's Eye blog!!  We have so many amazing chipboard options to work with for MME, it was definitely hard to narrow it down to what I wanted to use!  After some pondering, I decided that I really wanted to use the chipboard from the Jubilee "Mint Julep" collection, and focused on the banner & super adorable bicycle!

 

Supplies: Jubilee "Mint Julep" collection: 12x12 papers (Wild, Beautiful, Journey), Chipboard Elements, Mixed Bag, Label Stickers, Enamel Shapes, & Decorative Brads.

There is something so sweet & whimsical about the different bicycles that were used throughout these collections, and I just LOVED them!  So, I used similar designs on both of my cards so that I could use as many of them up as possible!  They combined so perfectly with layers of doilies.

My chipboard focus on the first card was the beautiful doily banner.  The banner in full is about 8 inches long, and definitely wouldn't have fit on my card in whole.  So, I cut it in half.  When it was time to add it to my card, I arranged it on the front until it looked just right...then trimmed off the excess.  The plus side - I still have the other half of the banner that I can use on another card later!

For my second card I used the chipboard bicycle, and added a little dimension to the flower basket by adding a matching chipboard flower to the top of it.  I used the same background design for each card, but love how they still look differently from each other. 

I love the dimension that chipboard adds, so don't be afraid to use it on your cards!  While they might cost a little more to ship, it is a small price to pay for the beauty it adds to your design!

Tina's Take on Chipboard Week

Welcome to Chipboard Week, MME fans!  All this week our awesome designers will be sharing inspiring ways to use MME chipboard. WOOHOO! Let's get this party started. Tina's up first!

Hi everyone!  Tina here today to kick off our Chipboard Feature Week!  It is no secret, I LOVE chipboard.  Chipboard has always been my favorite My Mind's product.  The designs and patterns are always the best and I always enjoy creating with them.

Today I thought I would share with you a Mini Tray project, created with our new Frightful Chipboard Element sheet.

 

This project was super easy.  You only several pieces from our new Frightful collection to complete it.  The only cutting needed is for the patterned paper placed in each cubby hole.

 

I layered chipboard elements with Mixed Bag diecuts, using foam tape in places for dimension.  You don't only need to decorate each cubby, you can also add embellishments on the outside and edges.  Fun!!

And just like that, DONE!

Good morning blog readers! Today it's time for the October installment of I Spy with MME. Every day we scour blogs, online galleries, Facebook, and Twitter to find examples of layouts, cards, and other projects using our products.

Tonya says:My name is Tonya Gibbs, and I have been a paper crafter most of mylife. Layouts, Cards, Mini Albums and Mixed Media projects are mylatest obsession.   The second I saw the Just Sayin' line I fell in
Love! The bright colors in the paper collection inspired this cheery,pick-me-up, Thinking of You theme.  The hand painted flowers on thefront of the card, offer some whimsy, and mimic the flowers in thepatterned paper. 

There is a tutorial on my blog that shows how I made them.  This card is the product of a 10 min. clean up challenge. I taught a layout class the night before on Ustream with the same collection.  The elements on the card, were sitting on my desk. Instead of clearing away the product, I created a card!   I hope I have inspired you to create something in 10 minutes or less with the scraps on your desk! Why it caught our eye: Because, simply put, it makes us happy. It's vibrant and cheerful and so intricate. Look closely at all of the beautiful layers and textures. Just lovely.

Designer: Wendi Antennuci

Wendi says:I wanted to do a layout about what creativity means to me and to make the layout like me which means gold, fussy cutting, and flowers!  MME products are perfect for each of my loves.  The chipboard, die-cut pieces, and the papers from the Market Street collection fit what I wanted to share in this layout and the colors that I love. 

I had a large quote cut file from Wilna Furstenberg that I chose to use and so I had to carefully arrange my other pieces around the quote. 

I used the various flowers and sprinkles to form a visual triangle around my photos and quote to lead my viewers eyes around to the main points of my layout.  I always journal on my pages, but I always leave this until the end and find the place on my page that feels unbalanced.  A few lines drawn in gives me the perfect opportunity to balance the layout and write what is on my heart.

 

Why it caught our eye: How could it NOT? It's absolutely fabulous! It's feminine and bold and super happy and creative.

Designer: Erica Thompson

Erica says: I created this layout using the August 2014 Clique Kit that featured My Mind's Eye Market Street.  I was inspired by several 8.5 x 11 layouts I had seen on Pinterest  that had shapes all over the page, on the top or bottom of the page or off to the side of the page.  I was in love with this beautiful colorful stripe paper with the gold foil on it so I used this piece to die cut some hearts with!  I added gold stitching down the hearts with my sewing machine and a few strips of paper above the hearts.  I printed my photo in black and white and added plenty of layers behind it.  The die cut leaves are an exclusive Clique Kits cut file that I added peeking out the side of my photo and they were cut out of vellum.  My Mind's Eye Market Street enamel dots are added around the top half of my layout along with some stamping of sentiments of how I was feeling on this day!  To finish it off I added a strip of washi tape that was also included in the Clique Kit and it went perfectly with the Market Street collection.

 

Why it caught our eye: The layering, the color combinations, the pattern mixing, and the sweet scattering of embellishments are perfectly on point. Those stitched hearts! Swoon!

Lydell says:I received these Market Street Papers in a kit from My Creative Scrapbook, and I knew straight away that I would fussy cut the flowers....I thoroughly enjoyed creating this one. I settled down with a cup of tea and happily snipped away! I raised some and layered others to create the dimension, adding some little dots of Dimensionz here and there for the centres. Another way to add dimension with otherwise flat paper cuts-such as leaves, is to just add glue to the stems, and lift the ends up a bit so they are not completely glued down to the cardstock. It gives your work just a little more character.

Why it caught our eye: This belongs in a frame on the wall...not in an album. It's absolutely stunning and magical. We adore every single last bit of it.

Jessica says:My name is Jessi and I am a MME paper pad addict! I love how there is always a large print include in the collection, allowing me to create my own embellishments by using the ‘fussy-cut- technique.  I also love making things simple and MME’s Tiny Word Stickers make it easy to add a sentiment! Why it caught our eye: Clean and simple is NOT an easy feat. We love the beautiful simplicity of this card and think anyone would be very lucky to receive it!

Project LifeⓇ with Shelly | October 2014

Hey Everyone, Shelly here! I am back with this month’s Project LifeⓇ inspiration. Today, I am sharing a fall summary using the Jubilee Collection.

Supplies: Jubilee: Tangerine – 6x6 Designer Paper Pad, “Story” Journal Cards, “Awesome” Mixed Bag, “Awesome” Enamel Dots, “Fantastic” Transparent Frames, “Fantastic” Sticky Notes, “Honor” Decorative Brads, “Adventure” Flair Pins; Other: Becky Higgins Design G Page Protectors

For this layout, I was completely inspired by the triangle trend. It just seemed fitting to roll with a warm cozy quilt feel for this fall summary page.

I am really drawn to the fun “life is a daring adventure” paper! I just added a little extra fun with some diagonal cut patterned paper pieces and a few die-cuts from the mixed bag.

This layout included memories from my son’s first baseball game. I wanted to make sure I included his ticket, so I trimmed down an extra page protector and stitched it on my layout.

The “my kind of day” transparency happened to be sitting right next to me when I was ready to slide the ticket it, and it completely jumped out at me for an added fun element.

It was the perfect added element this layout needed. I was able to add the ticket and a picture from the day.

While pushing the mixed bag die-cuts around, I stumbled upon the little leaves; the perfect fall touch.

October Challenge | Rub-Ons

Hi, I'm Monika and today I'm sharing the October challenge with all of you- Rub-Ons!

I'd love to show you how I used the new rub-ons from the Jubilee collection to create some darling home decor. Now that I've tried it, I just want to go around and add a rub-on to anything and everything in our home.


And why stop at just plates? Because I have two daughters, I knew that I had to find a way to spice up something in the younger daughter's room, too. If you have more than one kid, you'll know where I'm going with this. Keeping the peace, keeping the peace.


SUPPLIES USED

TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS
Before beginning, I suggest giving your plate or mirror or other object a quick swipe with some window cleaner and allowing it to dry before adhering your rub-ons.

I tested the rub-on's on the back of the plate first, just to see if it would work...and it did! I worked from above as the plates rested on my work table. I had little luck using this same technique on a curved glass vase, but I'm not giving up and will try again. I'll use smaller images, rather than the reallllly long string of hearts I originally tested with. The mirror, for some reason, was harder to do than the plates, which could have been because I was too lazy to pull it off the wall and was adhering the rub-on's at an odd angle while it was still hanging on the wall.

3. The project must be created new for this challenge. You may only submit one project.

5. A random winner will be chosen and announced with the October sketch challenge on Wednesday,October 15.
