Baby Layout | Just Sayin'

Hi everyone, Laurel here with a layout I just couldn’t wait to do!

I just recently became a grandma to my first grand child and she is such a doll! I was very excited to be in the delivery room throughout her whole birth, what a miracle! My daughter is staying with us so we could help her out a bit, but Kaiah is the best baby I have ever seen.

She eats and sleeps and pretty much never cries or fusses! Very opposite to what her mom was!

I thought the colors in the Just Sayin’ collection would work well for a baby layout. The goose ephemera card kind of made me think of a stork so I had to tuck it in behind the photos. I then added some of the circle die cuts and the large journaling circle (all ready for my daughter to add her thoughts) was cut from the 6 X 6 pad.

Black and White Embellishments | Jubilee

 

Hello! It’s Valerie, and I have a layout to share with you today. I love the black and white patterned papers and accents from the Jubilee line. You can’t go wrong with black and white, right? So I thought these black and white accents from all the Jubilee Mixed Bags might be great on a layout by themselves.

Supplies:My Mind’s Eye Jubilee Mint Julep “Beautiful” Mixed Bag and Jubilee Tangerine “Awesome” Mixed Bag. My Mind’s Eye Jubilee Wild Berry “Life” Mixed Bag, Wild Berry “Hey You” Rub-Ons, Wild Berry “Life” Enamel Dots. Wild Berry “Today” Enamel Shapes. My Mind’s Eye Just Sayin’ Alpha & Word Stickers. Other: American Crafts white cardstock, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher, & Studio Calico Mister Huey.

For the background I wanted to mimic the runny paint on the glass at the museum. I sprayed the top half of the white cardstock with water. Then I sprayed two different colors onto the top half of the cardstock. Next I sprayed more water and then tipped the page to let it run and drip down. I sped up the drying time with a heat tool and then laid the sheet under some heavy books overnight to flatten it out.

I store all the Jubilee Mixed Bag pieces together in the same small basket, so I simply went through and pulled out all the black and white pieces. I played around with the arrangement on the layout and then adhered them to the page. I added a rub-on and some enamel dots too. I love the contrast between the yellow, orange, black, and white!


I feel like I’ve been in a little rut lately and I am happy this layout feels totally me! I’m ready to go spend some more time in my craft room today. Thanks for stopping by!

Gift Box + Matching Tag and Card

Hey there, everyone!  Lea here today with some projects using the new Jubilee "Sherbet" collection.  There is a special little lady in my life who is turning 1 this month, and this paper collection actually matched t
he cute outfit that I got for her perfectly!!

 

So for my projects today, I covered & decorated a gift box, then created a matching tag & card that is personalized for her!  I know a one year old isn't really going to care about what it looks like, but her mom will love it!! :)

 

 

I chose a gift box that was square in shape, and it was just a little larger than 12x12.  I lined the top edges with teal washi tape before adhering the 12x12 paper to the top of it.  I then added a paper block to the bottom, and added a strip of glitter washi tape over the seam. 

 

After that I diecut a large bow from patterned paper, assembled it & added it to the top of the gift box.

I then made a matching tag using a journal card, chipboard shapes & alpha/word stickers.  I punched a hole in the top & strung twine through it, then topped it with a decorative brad.  After finishing the tag, I added it to the top of the gift box.

Then I made a matching card to finish the gift set. I layered some 6x6 paper blocks to the front, then accented with a diecut journal card & some embellishments.  I also added a strip of glitter washi tape, and a washi tape bow.

In order to make the washi tape bow, I covered a strip of white cardstock with the silver dotted washi tape.  This way it would be rigid enough to run through my diecut machine.  After diecutting the pieces, I assembled it & gave the bow some shape before adhering it to the card front.

I think it is so fun to use my scrapbooking product to create fun gift wrap, & this one is extra special.  You only have your first birthday once, so why not go all out?  Thanks for checking out my projects today...I hope you've enjoyed them!!

Anatomy of a Double Page Layout | September 2014

 

Hey everyone! This is Shelly again with this month’s dose of the makings of a double page layout.

Last month, I shared a summer summary page for my son’s album found HERE. This month, I thought I would share how I pull together a layout for my daughter’s album with the same topic. If it is a layout that I will be documenting for both of my kids, I pull pictures together for both layouts all at once. Killing two birds with one stone always makes it easier, but I do enjoy changing up the “style” of the layout for each of them to keep things interesting for myself.

Knowing that I wasn’t going to be creating this layout right away and my memory fades way too fast these days, I had my sketch book close by while I edited and sized my pictures. As you can see, I have both sketches right there waiting for me for both Summer layouts. I kept them very similar in design, so that I wouldn’t have to resize the majority of the pictures. My plan was to let the colors and patterns give each of the pages their own uniqueness.

Here is a little reminder of what last month’s layout looked like.

I absolutely loved how the blues, yellow, and orange blended together with my summery pictures.

Since this month’s layout was for my fun pink loving girly girl, Jubilee’s Wild Berry was top on my list this time around. The bonus of having so many colorful pictures on a layout is that you can really switch up the color palette to customize the look that you are aiming for.

Having pictures laid out, I started pushing around papers on the left side of my page first. My plan was to keep with the same lines as the large block of pictures on the right side of the layout. With my son’s, I kept with one large block of the same pattern. To switch things up with this layout, I opted for three strips of patterned paper to add some interest.

Having so much color and pattern on the left side, I wanted a neutral color for the top strip that would connect both sides of my layout. Once I saw the Adventure pattern paper with the quote “Life is a daring adventure” on it, I knew that it would be the perfect neutral with the added bonus of a built in title.

When it was time to embellish my layout, I stumbled upon the mixed bags. The stack of little triangles jumped right out at me. I do have to say that every time I dump those bags out onto my desk, I am always amazed at how much comes in those packages of fun. I totally recommend getting your hands on a bag or two! They are such a great value.

Last stop of my creative process was to play with the left side a bit. The new rub-ons were the perfect touch to re-create the look of my main title from the other side giving my double page layout a unified look.  

As I did with my son’s layout, I included a divided page filled with pictures of our annual Fourth of July family trip.

I am really happy how each element of this double page layout can stand on its own, yet flow so nicely when put together.

So, do you create similar layouts for multiple albums? Do you like to keep them exact replicas of each other for ease and time, or do you like to switch it up just a touch? Or maybe you like to do something completely different for each one? As you can see, I like to change things it up just a touch to keep my own interest and creativity flowing. I am afraid that if I didn’t, memory keeping would just feel like one big assembly line.

Monogram

Good morning! Tonya here today to show you just how well the papers from all four of the Jubilee collections go together. My daughter has been wanting a room makeover. Which means that we have new paint, new bedding and of course new wall decor on the horizon. I was lucky enough to come across this 12x12" frame in the clearance section at Michaels and thought right away in would make the perfect placeholder for a large monogram.

 

I started off choosing all of the different patterned papers that I wanted to use to fill the negative space of the letter. I ended up using papers from all four of the Jubilee collections.

 

Supplies: Jubilee (Mint Julep)- 6x6 Decorative Paper Pad, Enamel Dots, 12x12 "Live it Up" Chipboard Elements, "Journey" Rub Ons, "Beautiful" Mixed Bag Jubilee (Tangerine)- 6x6 Decorative Paper Pad, Jubilee (Wild Berry)- 6x6 Decorative Paper Pad, 12x12 "Wonder" Chipboard Elements, Jubilee (Sherbet)- 6x6 Decorative Paper Pad.

 

I cut the papers using a hexagon die  that I have (fortunately it cuts out about 15 of them at a time). I wanted to add a little more dimension to the patterned papers so I randomly placed two stitch marks here and there.

 

Lastly I embellished with various pieces of chipboard, rub ons, enamel dots, and die cuts from the mixed bag.

 

 

 

 

I think it's pretty awesome how the color schemes of each collection are so different but yet they worked so well with each other too!

Altered Coupon Holder

Hi! Tina here today with a project that was un-planned, simple, and just plain happy. Often, when creating my Design Team projects, I get caught up in creating something that is overly-complex and over-planned. I get obsessed with creating a WOW project. A project that is much too serious.

But today, I am sharing a ‘spur of the moment’ project that is different than what I normally create.

Y’all know the Target Dollar Spot? That spot, right near the entrance of the store. {The spot that sucks you in} The Dollar spot bins are full of fun, colorful, and seasonal items. I can never walk into a Target without perusing the bins for items ‘I must buy’! ☺

One of the main reasons I enjoy shopping the Dollar Spot bins is that the items are inexpensive. We are all looking for a bargain, aren’t we? During a recent trip, I spied these little coupon holders. Super fun, cute & practical all by themselves.

But does practical need to be plain! No! Why not dress ‘em up a bit? I cut the entire Calendar Sticky Pad from the Jubilee Sherbet Sticky Notes – cardboard and all. I adhered it to the coupon holder with super sticky ScorTape. I added several chipboard and enamel shape embellishments for a whimsical design.

Done! Instead of using my coupon holder to ‘hold coupons’, I am using mine to hold photos and little notes. A woman is allowed to change her mind. Ha!

I can carry this in my purse, to crops and creative events. Perfect for little notes and for safe keeping my project photos.

Mixed Media with Karen | September 2014

Hi everyone!

This is Karen, back with a Mixed Media page for September. This month, I decided to try out one of my assignments from the Life Book class I am taking.

The week's artist, Mika Diaz,   taught a technique where we traced an image on tracing paper and then used it on our page.

I found an image in a catalog I had lying around and then traced over it with pencil.



I didn't worry too too much about getting it perfect.

I then started working on my background. I decided to collage a bunch of the 3x4 cards I love so much.


I glued them down using gel medium (I will note that gel medium and I don't get along well. I can never seem to use it without creating a lot of bubbles.] I really liked how it looked after I had the cards down. In fact, I liked it so much that I was tempted to just leave it like that. But then I got the idea to use one of the gold papers from the Necessities line and I kept worrying that it would "ruin" the whole thing.

Here's something I've learned: when you have an idea, you need to be brave enough to try it. Even if it turns out to be a disaster, you can always start from scratch or paint over it or even soldier on. If you start second guessing your ideas/whims, you will always find yourself doing the same things so as to not "ruin" anything.

But it's only when we venture out and try new things that we expand and discover.

So I urge you to give those little whispers some voice.

I decided to listen to mine and I glued down the gold page on top.


And then I immediately hated the results. I hated how much the page bubbled up. In some sections, it was so bad that I had to cut out parts of the paper which made me more upset. After ranting out loud for a few  seconds about how I totally should not have ruined my page, I scolded the negative voice in my head and decided to move on and see where I could go next.

I put some paint down on my page and noticed that the paint hugged the bubbles and texture of the paper.


I was already liking this better. Next, I glued down my traced girl and traced over her again with my Stabilo All pencil (which can write over any surface and is awesome.) I then painted my girl lightly to match the colors in the background. And added a bit of text that says "You Can Choose Peace." A little more Stabilo All on the edges and my page was done:



I love that the cards all the way at the bottom show through in parts of my page. But what I love even more is that gold that comes through the layers and shines:

If I hadn't been willing to add that gold layer, I could have not achieved this lovely effect. Yet another proof that you have to be willing to try new things. And that when it looks like all is lost, you can just move through and remember that this is just another layer, it doesn't have to be finished until you say it is.

Travel Page | Jubilee Tangerine

Hey there!  Missy here with you on this awesome Friday.  The layout I’m sharing today is a fun travel page.  As soon as I laid eyes on the Jubliee Tangerine Traveler paper, I knew I had to create a layout about my husband’s and my recent trip to Las Vegas.  I decided to draw a line from our home in Florida all the way across the country to Vegas…our destination!  It was perfectly placed on this map, and it made the placement of my two photos really easy.   I used a chipboard piece for my title…yet another perfect item for this page.  I love when a collection is just perfect for your photos and everything just falls into place.  I love that blue sky in the plane photo matches the blues in the paper, too!

 

This is a very “clean” layout for me.  With that beautiful map of the world as my background, I didn’t want to cover any of it up with gesso.  It’s already very busy, so minimal embellishing was necessary.  Plus, I didn’t want to drown out the photos.  I chose a few other patterned papers to layer under my photos, but nothing too overpowering.  I think printing my photo in black and white helps it pop against the colorful background.

I created a small cluster in the bottom right hand corner with some decorative tape, a label sticker, an enamel arrow and some chipboard pieces.  Again, I didn’t want to add too much and make it too busy.

 

I broke up my photos with this fun label sticker and a cute word sticker from the Necessities Blues collection.  I also layered in an “awesome” die cut, some decorative tape and a flair pin. 

 

I don’t know about you, but I can’t get enough of enamel dots!  I used several on top of this heart to add a pop of color next to these stickers.  Once those were placed, I added my journaling in the surrounding lighter area.  Again, it was the perfect place for it.

I hope this inspires you to pull out some of travel photos and give this collection a try!  Maybe this layout gives you some ideas of how to use this busy but amazing paper.  I’d love to see what you create!

50 Until 50 Album

We have an exciting announcement to make. Our beloved Monika Wright is returning to the MME team. We couldn't possibly be happier...we missed her so much!

While she was away Monika created this extraordinary 50 Until 50 mini album (using almost all MME products). Here's what she had to say about this project:

Some time ago, I had an idea to count down the 50 days before my 50th birthday with lists. I had a few ideas about what I wanted to share about my life so far, but mostly I just took a moment to think and documented my list. Each day, I posted my 50 lists on Instagram and you can find them by searching the #50until50 hashtag.

If you do check out my lists on Instagram, you might notice that there is a gap in the posting of lists. In March, my Father-in-Law passed away suddenly and I halted my posting and documenting. You might also notice though that I did eventually carry on with my project. He would have been 70 in May. 

My motivation for this project were my children. I wanted them to know things about me that I might never have brought up in conversation. One day when they're older, they might find this album, read these lists and perhaps they'll serve as topics of conversation between us. Or not. Who knows, that's the beauty of life.
