Hello everyone! This is Shelly with another behind the scenes look at the makings of a double page layout.
Now that the Holiday Season has passed, it’s time to start documenting all of those memories! Each year, we head up to the great white north of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula for the Christmas Season.
What would it be if we didn’t enjoy all that white stuff? It’s simply a family tradition to spend an afternoon all together racing down one of the many snow covered hills in the area.
After playing with Mistletoe Magic last month, I was inspired by those colorful snowflakes to get creative and scrapbook some of these sledding fun pictures.
Supplies:Mistletoe Magic: “Snow Flakes” patterned paper, “Trees” patterned paper, decorative brads, enamel dots, chipboard elements, Sticker Accessory Sheet; Cut & Paste Charm: “Carefree” Mellow patterned paper, “Carefree” Relaxed patterned paper; Other: string, alphabet stickers, silhouette, scallop border punch.
After choosing my favorite shots of the action, I went to work on my sketch. This time I kept it pretty generic. With only (2) 4x6 pictures on the left side, I knew I would have a lot of creative room to play. I wanted to let the pretty papers be my inspiration once I started pushing my pictures around on my canvas.
I knew I wanted to use Mistletoe Magic’s “Snow Flakes” patterned paper as my starting point. After seeing it next to my pictures, I really wanted to bring in more blues and down play the green. I immediately thumbed through my stack of Cut & Paste papers to add in a little navy blue. The varied blue woodgrain of “Carefree” Relaxed patterned paper was just what I was looking for.
So, what to do with my (2) 4x6 focal point pictures? I started with them both at an angle, but quickly decided to go with a nice clean liner look. With the right side of my page containing two vertical photo strips, I wanted to balance the look of my page with some nice horizontal lines too. Lots of pretty patterned paper strips were in order for this project.
I continued those same strips across both sides of my page. To ground my photo strips, I had them both “fall off” thepage a bit. I liked this look because they felt like they were floating around on the page before doing this.
For the title, I went big! Using the Silhouette, I cut out “Snow Day” from vellum. The slight transparent look screamed SNOW to me. I just love how vellum assimilates with the colors of the paper beneath it creating the perfect match to anything.
The title still needed a little something extra… LAYERS! I added in a subtitle and a couple of snowflake stickers along with enamel dots for the centers.
Next step, the embellishing fun part! I added in just a touch of journaling. It didn’t like being all by itself, so I gave it some company by added in a couple of banners and a tag from the decorative brad sheet.
Some more snowflakes were also in order, so I clustered a few on the smaller strip of patterned paper.
Since the right side of the page had plenty of snowflake love coming from the pattern paper, I opted to only add in one more snowflake sticker along with a button and a brad. Having lots going on visually with the pictures and the snowflake patterned paper, I wanted to keep things fairly simple on this side.
Thank you for stopping by today, I hope you have enjoyed your dose of double page inspiration this month.
Have a wonderful day and a fabulous New Year!
