Wood
letters are a classic home décor item. It is fun to spell out Halloween
words with them such as: Spooky, Pumpkins, Creepy, Fright, etc.-
the possibilities are endless.
You can purchase primed wood letters available
at Michael's or you can cut out your own. They also have 17” letters at The Wood Connection.
I had a set of fun “BOO” wood letters that
Amber
Packer designed and thought that the Happy Haunting collection would
look perfect on them. I love the orange glitter on black and cream
color palette.
I
had a dilemma because the letters are about 14” tall, 2 inches taller
than a 12” piece of patterned paper. I didn’t want my paper seam to be obvious so I hand
cut around each patterned edge so the two papers would flow seamlessly.
I
tempora
rily taped the two pieces together before tracing and carefully
matched the patterns (then removed the tape before Mod Podging the
papers
to the letter).
Next, I traced each painted letter (FRONT
side
down) onto the BACK of the paper and cut them out. I inked around the
edges of the papers and let them dry well. I used matte Mod Podge to
adhere and seal the papers.
Mod Podge Tips: Brush the Mod Podge glue onto the wood letter,
NOT the paper. If you put it on the paper first, it will cause it to warp and bubble and it gets very messy.
After you have brushed it onto the wood,
place the paper cutout over it and smooth with your fingers or credit
card to work out any air bubbles. After it has dried, apply a final
coat of Mod Podge to seal the paper and sides of the letter.
I
used the fabulous 4” x 6” glittered prints to embellish my letters and
machine stitched around the edges. I cut a tag out of “Happy Haunting”
and attached it to the “B” with a chevron brad and black ribbon.
Then I
layered the “Beware” chipboard with the scalloped spider web chipboard
and hung it in the center of the black chevron “O” with a brad and
orange
twill.
Lastly, I cut out the “Thirty-One” from patterned paper and adhered it to the bottom of the “31” on the polka dot “O” with a bat brad.
That's it! Easy peasy and FUN!
