Hi everyone!
This is Karen, I am excited to be back with another Mixed Media with Karen. I'll be honest that when I first saw the Chalk Studio line, I thought, "I can never use that line!" I am a big lover of color and just couldn't come up with one idea that would work with these black and white pages.
Until I got them in the mail.
As soon as they arrived and I touched them, ideas came flooding to me. I fell in love with the frames in the Pictured paper and I got the idea from the Banner kit to use the polka dots from the back of the Moments paper.
Now that I had an initial idea, I went through the other new lines and the Beautiful Delight paper jumped out at me from the Cut and Paste Presh line. So I decided to cut out the flowers and embellish my frame a bit.
My first step was just just do some fussy cutting. At this point I was also considering using the Tags but I then decided to use more frames instead.
My next step was to lay down all my pieces and just arrange them on the page to see how I would like it all. This is right around when the sun went down so taking photos became challenging. I used the one big frame and then pieces of two others to create a triangle and then I lined up some white, red and blue flowers along each.
I then glued it all down, and created my title. The great thing about the black background is that it makes the colors on it pop out a lot. I was surfing around Pinterest that same day and had run across this quote
I loved, so I decided to use it. Here's part of the title:
The full title reads: You are confined only by the walls you build yourself.
I then painted on top of the flowers and letters a bit to give them a more painted look. I also painted the edges of my page and used a bunch of gold paint, too. And finally, I added some noise to the background using stamps. I ended up with this:
The full-on photo doesn't do it justice because it's super-sparkly in person. So I decided to take another one that shows some of the delightful shine on the page:
There you go, this is my mixed media page for this month. Another fun project, a good reminder to self, and some lovely color mixed in with the beautiful Chalk Studio line. Thanks for letting me share my project and if you've bought this line or have combined black and loud colors before, I'd love to see your pages!
