Hi everyone! This is Karen. Ready for another Mix and Match with Karen? Remember how I said I'd try making 6x12 pages for the next few months? Here is try number two.
This month, I wanted to use the wonderful navy blues of the Kate and Co. line. It's quite rare to find navy and deep, dark greens and I have two boys so I thought the colors of this line were absolutely perfect. I
decided to mix this line with subtler colors of Follow Your Heart. This month, I went sparser and here's what I ended up with:
The first thing I did was to cut the Societe paper from the Follow Your Heart into a 6x12 because I decided I wanted to use it as my background. I then used a border punch to cut Oxford Lane - Triples and added it to the top of my page.
Before I glued it down, I snuck some of the leftover hexagons from last month's page under it, to create a bit of a triangle (since the background had some on the bottom left corner.) I added a tabbed sticker and spelled the word "love" with the alpha stickers from the Spread Your Wings and Fly line. I put a chipboard piece on top just to add a few layers and textures and then topped it off with a brad from
Follow Your Heart.
I love the way the orange adds some warmth. A little butterfly hexagon chipboard button and the top was good to go.
I knew I wanted to use the whitespace on the photo to put some of my title so I added the photo to the left, put some hexagons (to finish the triangle I mentioned above), some of the chipboard I put on the top
section and a little of the same polka dot paper. I then added a word sticker from the same color I used to spell "love" on the label on top. I then laid out my title, using the same warm orange I'd used on the
bran on top. I also used the same yellow alphabet stickers.
The title says: I love to see you be proud of you my son.
My son is one of those boys who can focus on the negative and pay attention to what he's not doing well so when I see him cheering himself on and celebrating his accomplishments, I love and want to encourage that. This page was in honor of that.
On the bottom left of the photo, I cut off the "fun" part of the chipboard element that came with Kate & Co and stuck it under my photo. I then clustered a paper clip and a butterfly brad from the Follow Your Heart line, a word sticker from Kate & Co., and a little letter "d" for David. With another tabbed label and the year 2013, my layout was all done.
Well, I then stitched all over it of course, I like to do that.
So here's to another month of 6x12. This one even has journaling. What I'm finding out is that the 6x12s don't take any less time than the 12x12s but they have their own little dynamic and challenges. I am glad
I decided to conquer my fear and tackle them for once and all.
Hope you enjoyed this one and see you next month with another Mix and Match!
