Hi everyone! This is Karen, back with another edition of Mix and Match with Karen. For the last few years, I've been wanting to create 6x12 layouts just to see how the narrower page might influence my designs. I've been a bit scared to do them so I decided to challenge myself to make the next three layouts I share 6x12s and see what I find out. Not that you had a choice, but thank you for indulging my curiosity.
That's the thing with creativity: sometimes you have to shake things up a bit. So here's my first attempt.
For this month's page, I decided to mix up Find Your Wings and Fly with Follow Your Heart and then added a few bits from Kraft Funday and Lost and Found 3. It's quite amazing how magnificently well all these lines work together. Here's what I came up with:
The title reads: I cherish these rare quiet moments where I can get a peek at your soul.
I love this photo of my son looking down at his sketches. It always makes me emotional. I wanted to capture the warm tones on his face so I started with the Labeled paper and cut along the pattern's edges. I then glued it flush against the left side of my page and stuck my son's photo under it. I also cut out the hexagons from the Be Amazing - Societe paper and snuck a bunch under the left side and glued a few to the right side.
Since the hexagons are white in the middle, they added a bit of yellow without overwhelming the page. I added the blue chipboard saying from the Lost and Found 3 chipboard sheet along the left edge and then right next to it, lined up the Happy Days Borders from the Kraft Funday line. I then topped that banner with the gold one from the Lost and Found 3 line. I loved how the soft pink and the deep red and blue worked with the warm gold.
I then embellished the top right with a few pieces from Find Your Wings and Fly and Lost and Found 3. I added some enamel dots of course. I love how those dots add a tiny drop of color.
I then laid out my title and added the last bits of chipboard. I love the clips from the Follow Your Heart line so I stuck one on the photo and then embellished the whitespace the clip created with a few enamel
dots.
And here we go, 6x12 layout #1 conquered. I love the warmth of this page. I also love the tiny bits of yellow, lime and blue that add a bit of a balance. Have you done a 6x12 layout? If so, please leave a
comment, I'd love to see them!
See you next month with another mix and match and, hopefully, another 6x12.
