Happy New Year's Eve!

Happy New Year's Eve! It's Jana Eubank. Can you hardly believe that we are about to turn the calendar over to another year?! It seems like just yesterday that I was ringing in 2012 with my family.

 

I love a new year. It is a time of reflection and reprioritizing. A time of decluttering and new beginnings. To start my page, I chose to be inspired by fresh colors and pull products together using a color palette rather than using one collection. I chose the colors yellow, pink, and gray accented with soft blue and a pinch of red.

I pulled patterned papers from the Lost & Found 3 and Lost in Love collections to begin. I chose the yellow striped Oliver Lace Fan Paper for the base of my page. Next, I held my photos up to several papers and decided to mat my main photo with the large polka dotted Lucky in Love Multi Stripe Paper.

 

From there, I worked my way out with the papers. I chose to place the soft blue polka dot to the right of the photo. The cream mat for the photo, the sliver of blue striped paper, and the gray paper strips all come from the same sheet of Oliver Bingo Glitter Paper. I stamped the top gray strip of paper with the number line from the Oliver Stamps. I added a punch of contrast by cutting out a red glittery strip of paper from the Ruby Stripes Glitter Paper.

 

Next, it was time to find accents and embellishments for my page. The stickers, die cuts, and numbers all come from The Sweetest Thing collection.

I handcut the numbers from the "One of a Kind" Notable Paper to use as my page title. I arranged die cuts and stickers along with my smaller photos in a waterfall pattern down the right side of my page.

I found three silver star charms in my stash and strung them from the top edge of my paper with the Follow Your Heart "Be Happy" Twine. A scattering of rhinestones here-and-there around the page are a perfect way to add a party feel to the rest of the page.

A little about Cocoa Daisy:

One of our members dubbed Cocoa Daisy as a "little slice of happy on the internet." We like that description. We are a monthly scrapbooking kit club owned by Christine Drumheller. Mini Albums with Monika..."Right Now"

We're just days away from a brand new year, can you believe it?

Greetings...I'm so excited to share another Mini Albums with Monika project today.

A few years ago, I recorded answers to the same questions every month for a year...similar to the "currently" journaling prompts we've all seen around.

Fun project to do and even more fun to look back to read what was on my mind back then. I thought it was time to do this project again, so let me share with you my process and the mini album page download, which you'll find at the end of the post.

When I create a mini album project, I nearly always design the cover last. Once I began my search for goodies to embellish the front cover, the chipboard piece "Tell Me All About It" seemed just the perfect title for this collection of "right now" thoughts.

You might notice that I added a chipboard arrow to cover the title that was already on the layered sticker. A little machine stitching (in red) highlights the red spiral binding and the red in the chipboard arrow that points to the title.

I'm still crushing on the decorative tape trend and I chose the gold polka dot tape to enhance the gold from the layered sticker embellishment on the front cover. For the back cover, a little more decorative tape to add a bit of interest. If you don't have a binding machine, use binder rings instead.

See those blank blocks at the top and bottom of the mini album page? Here's how I decided to kick it up a notch...add more MME paper to the project!

I printed enough pages to record my thoughts for two years, but left some pages unembellished so that I can add other MME collections to my mini album as new collections are released.

 

DESIGN TIP | When adding paper that needs to fit within a block, my go-to adhesive is a glue stick, which gives me just a bit of time to wiggle the paper around until it's in just the position it needs to be in.

Suzanne says:I loved the following scrapbook page from Juliana. One thing that drew me to the page was her design using many different patterns of paper. I loved her creative use of the papers, and the many layers she created within the page.

I am normally a one picture type of gal, so this was another element that drew me to her page.

I tried to mimic her use of the various papers to showcase my little girl.

The different layers added a soft element to my page, which complimented my sweet photo.I also added a doily to my page. A perfect detail on a girl page.

I also was inspired by the cluster of buttons & brads, and used buttons from the lost & found 3 Ruby collection on the right side of the page.

Ronda says:When strolling through My Mind’s Eye Inspiring Cards & Layouts, Mary Ann’s layout jumped out at me.

I usually condensed in my designs using a lot of white space around the page.

Mary Ann’s page is both beautiful & frightening to me.  I absolutely adore the design but it is out of my scrapbooking safety zone.  That’s the beauty of finding inspiration and challenging yourself, so I stepped outside by comfort level and started creating.

I was drawn to her used of patterned papers in all the polaroids found on the Follow your Heart Be Happy Adorable paper. I decided to use the Sweetest Thing Together Chevron Paper and layer some of the frames from a second sheet to add some dimension. 

Like Mary Ann I chose to use mostly black & white photos, with one exception which became my focal point. 

I love how she used embellishments outside the frames a knew I had to incorporate those elements and add in my own little splatters of ink.

My title is a nod to her use of numbers and really finished off my page.  I love this page and am very happy I pushed myself.  Thanks Mary Ann for such an inspiring page.

Merry Christmas to all of you! Danni here to share some Christmas as we celebrate the holidays with our loved ones near and far.

I absolutely love this decorative tape and could use it on everything!  I love how quickly you can add an accent to you card that will not be adding to the shipping costs.

When creating cards for Christmas, you have to take into consideration the shipping costs and these tapes are perfect for adding patterns and colors without the bulk.

This is a flat/mailable card using the designer tape again and little heart punches for the embellishments.  The little embellies pack a big punch while still allowing them to be mailed to your recipients.

I love how this card pops because of the layers.   We had a snowy, stormy day here and I can't get the glitter to pop in the pictures but paired with the chipboard embellishments, this card really shines.  I am excited to see the reaction from my recipient as it is almost as shiny as she is.

Altered Christmas Can by Tamara

One of our favorite Christmas traditions is drawing family names for a gift exchange.  We usually just scribble names on scraps of paper, then draw them out of a bowl.

I thought it would be fun to make a special can with personalized name tags.  I know this will become a treasured Christmas keepsake that we use every year.

I used an empty Piroutte cookie can from Walmart (left over from cookies we dipped in hot chocolate, yum!).

I found some green spray paint in my garage and painted the lid.  Then I covered the metal can with these festive papers from the Winter Wonderland collection.  

I used double stick tape and the heavy duty red scrapbook tape (for the seam in the back). The present sticker border was perfect for our "Gift Exchange" can.  I embellished the can with chipboard stickers, enamel dots, a sticker, and twine.

For the name tags, I printed the names in red ink on the light blue "At Home" patterned paper and stitched around them.  Then Iayered the patterned Christmas papers and added decorative brads and present chipboard pieces.

A Heritage Christmas Layout with Tina

Hi!  Tina here today with a heritage Christmas layout, featuring, me!  :)  I think I was probably 4 or so in this picture and it's a great memory of Christmas past.

One of my favorite techniques when scrapping heritage or older photos is to change the photo to black and white (if it isn't already so), and add lots of fun color to your layout.  The black and white always looks great with any color patterned paper you choose and really makes the photo POP.

Another one of my favorite techniques to add color to a layout is to spray your background with a spray mist.  I didn't want a completely white background for my page, and adding a strip of patterned paper to the top was too much color, so, I masked off the top edge of my paper and sprayed it with spray mist.  This is a great way to add a little color, but not too much.

Mixed Media with Karen...Lost and Found 3

Good morning everyone! This is Karen Grunberg and I'm here with my December mixed media blog post.

This month, I wanted to have fun with some of the beautiful papers and embellishments in the Lost and Found 3 line.

As I looked through the papers, the labels jumped out at me and gave me the inspiration for my page. So I cut them out and started laying them down in my book. I didn't over-think it, I picked two corners and cut out the two pieces of paper I liked the best. I painted my background a muted gray and glued the papers on the edges.

I then used the sticker sheets and chipboard accents to add some layers and shimmer to my page. I grabbed some contrasting alphas and wrote my main word (free) and started adding more letter stickers.

After adding my title, I also used some of the texture stamps to add a little interest and layering to my background. The gray looked too dull to me and I like the noise and texture the stamps added. I colored the
edges of my page with some black paint and I was done.

The title reads: You are not bound by the labels others have put on you. You are free. Only you choose who you are. Only you.

And there you go, another fun mixed media and collage page. My challenge to you this month is to pull out some paper you love and start playing with it. Don't save them for a special occasion, every single day you
live is a special occasion. Use the supplies you love!

Tis the Season by Jana

Every year my kids sleep out under the Christmas tree on December 23rd. It's a fun night of movies, giggles, popcorn, and treats.

I chose to use blue tones for the majority of this page because it conveys the calm, cozy, nighttime feel of this memory.

But too much blue can feel dusty and dark, so I added accents of bright, cheery papers.

I used my die cutting machine to create the folded Christmas tree.

The Winter Wonderland buttons make the perfect ornaments! I stitched each one on, tying knots in a few of them for a different texture. The smaller scale print of the 6 x 6 paper pad worked perfectly to create the Christmas tree skirt.

The chipboard presents fit perfectly with my tree. I added a few enamel dots to each gift for a touch of sparkle. Finally, I tucked a journal spot from the 4 x 6 accessories pad behind the left side.

I used the chipboard snowflakes to balance the scale of the tree from the other page and accented the center of each one with more Winter Wonderland buttons.

I matted the phrase sticker on green cardstock and then added a few more enamel dots as shiny "nailheads."
