Since we moved into our home a few years ago, I've had a lot of bare walls. This Christmas I decided to start filling those walls with beautiful artwork. Luckily, My Mind's Eye makes gorgeous papers that fit in perfectly with my home decor! For this Christmas tree collage, I mainly used the Holly Jolly collection, but I added the cute little bird from the I Believe collection.
In order to create this project you will need the following materials:
- 5x7 chipboard, canvas or piece of wood
- 35 1x1 inch squares cut from the MME Holly Jolly paper
- Mini red chipboard bird from the MME I Believe chipboard shapes
- 1 mini ticket and 1 green paper button from the MME Holly Jolly die cut images
- Mod Podge
- Paint in green, soft white, gold and metallic dark brown (I used Americana paints.)
- DecoArt Texture Thick paste (you can find this at your local craft store)
- Bazzill chipboard star (or any other star you have in your stash)
- 1 triangle cut from double-thick cardstock by Bazzill or watercolor paper for the tree
- 1 small rectangle cut from chipboard for your trunk
- Shimmerz Blingz in Gold Glimmer (for your star)
- Brayer (optional)
- bubble wrap (optional)
- Small MME brads from the Holly Jolly collection
Technique:
1. Adhere the squares of paper using Mod Podge in a pleasing design.
2. Using a brayer or your finger, add soft white paint over the papers in order to tone them down. Dry.
3. Paint the edges of your background with dark brown metallic paint. Dry.
4. Add splotches of gold paint using bubble wrap as a stamp, if desired.
5. Create the tree using the technique demonstrated in the video.
6. Adhere the tree, trunk, star, ticket, bird and paper button in pleasing manner.
7. Enjoy your creation!
