With Design Team Members in different countries and different states within the country, we finally all have our children back in school. We are hear to provide a shoulder to cry on or celebrate with you – whatever the case may be. Whatever your personal feelings on back to school time may be, this is the perfect time to record your feelings and observations and scrap them before they are gone.
There are so many different directions you can go in with a “Back To School” layout. Here are a just a few of the topics that our designers scrapped:
- Firsts: First time at school, riding the bus, etc.
- Clothes
- First Day pictures
- College bound at any age
- Remember to record things like handwriting
What will you remember about this time? We hope everyone will join us. This is a great time to scrap about your school experiences or those of your grown children.

My older son just started kindergarten this week. It's his first time at a new school. First time riding the bus. First time with his new clothes, backpack, lunch bag, etc. First time being in class for over 6 hours. I took photos from the different school-related things we did this week and put together a layout to commemorate all of his firsts. I had a lot of photos for this layout and didn't want to exclude any of them since they are each filled with memories. So I lay down all my photos first and built the rest of the layout around them.

When I think of school - images of red juicy apples and fall come to my mind. I thought the bold, deep colors and red of Union Square were perfect for this timeless "Back to School" Layout. I changed the photos to black and white (rather than the pink, blue and brown, that my kids were wearing) so they would coordinate together. I used the Black Lush chipboard to highlight the grade they were each starting. The title "It's a Beautiful Day" captured the feeling of that exciting and sunny morning - as they hurried off to school with a skip in their step. The Union Square epoxy brads and ribbon added the finishing touch to the page.

My youngest entered Kindergarten this year. He has been counting down the days until he can start. I may have been tempted to cry or be sad for myself if he wasn’t so excited to go. As you can tell, he ran from me to school.
Our school district is pushing the kids to be college ready and I love it. Luckily the “Class of 2023” is a long time down the road. Although I know it will be here if I only blink.
