Dress up your Frame-ups!

It’s time to dress up your Frame-ups!  There are many, many options: stickles, glossy accents, rhinestones, chipboard letters, glimmer spray and so much more. 

You are going to have so much fun - we sure did!  We came up with mini-albums, teacher gifts, door tags, flowers, party hats and more. 

Wendy Smedley:  It’s hard to believe that My Mind's Eye is 10 years old. I had the privilege of being at the first trade show with one of the owners, and can I just tell you that is was such a small industry then-- in fact hardly anyone even knew what scrapbooking was. The idea of a paper frame was so simple yet applicable. Of course MME has grown and innovated in many other ways since those early days.

I made two projects using the frame-ups products, the first hanging door tags, second a candy bouquet for my son's teacher. Both super easy, and both super cute.

Door tags

4" x 6" frame + die cuts + photo + jumbo paper clip

 

The second project is a simple candy bouquet.

• Select a container and cover it with MME paper
• Added title
• Adhere the frame ups to lollipop sticks, tie with fabric or ribbon scraps
• Insert foam into container
• Insert pencils
• Insert frame-ups
• Lastly, add the candy where ever you see a hole
• Tie fabric or ribbon around your container and you are done!

Amber Packer:  I knew the Frame-ups would be perfect for a simple, quick, cute and inexpensive baby mobile.  With the variety of Frame-ups we re-released you could even switch the mobile up with the seasons.  There is no printing on the back so you can leave the back blank (like I did) or mount the pieces on cardstock.  I used Stickles and Glossy Accents to dress up my Frame-ups!

Tiffani Smith: 

I used papers from Quite Contrary  along with Frame-Ups to create a party hat and necklace fit for a birthday princess.  By using punches this little project was quick and easy!  I accented my hat with pieces from the Me and My Sister pack.  I punched the flowers from the small frame with a circle punch and added them to my flowers with pop dots to make the fun centers.  I also curved the petals of the flowers and bent the butterfly wings to give the project more dimension.  The hat didn't feel finished to me so i added the fringe border and "top spout".

Quite Contrary...

 
Anam did a beautiful job using the Quite Contrary "Little Miss Muffet" collection of papers and embellishments. She further enhanced this lovely layout with a few of the LUSH Self Adhesive Rhinestones and added a bot of Ranger "Glossy Accents" to her title.

Her tip for this layout: rotate the die-cut paper to be off center. This gives a varied point of interest to the layout.

 

 

Trisha did a masculine looking layout using the Quite Contrary "Little Boy Blue" Collection of papers and co-odinating die cuts and stickers. She also used the ribbons and chipboard letters from the brown and green LUSH collections, which all matched PERFECTLY!

 

Layer some of the sticker ad die cuts using pop dots for additional dimension (because lumps and bumps are a GOOD thing!).

Timeless Tips from Wendy

Thanks for stopping by, I am excited to share two projects with you and a few timeless tips.

My Mind's Eye's thick textured patterned paper is a favorite of mine to use in paper crafting projects. I have been altering picture frames using fabric to wrap around the wood and I thought I would try to use patterned paper. After some failed attempts I figured out how to best work with the paper to make it pliable enough to mold. Give this technique a try.

Steps

1. Cover surface with wax paper
2. Prepare adhesive, mix one part water with two parts mod podge, stir
3. Tear patterned paper into approximately 1" x 12" strips
4. (it takes one sheet of patterned paper to cover 5" x 7" frame)
5. Cover paper with mod podge on both sides until pliable (I like to use a makeup sponge)
6. Secure end of paper onto frame with a bit of hot glue
7. Start wrapping around frame adding more adhesive if needed to mold paper to frame
8. Continue until frame is covered
9. Add second coat of adhesive, let dry overnight
10. Embellish and enjoy your project

The frame in the picture below shows you how free form the strips are applied, and it works, so do not stress or strive for perfection.

Another part of the paper I like is the simple patterns that adorn the back side. On the layout below I combined leftover pieces from Lush and Quite Contrary, this is an easy technique and good way to use leftover papers. 

Note, I used three colors: black, teal, and red-orange and I implemented the color rule of thirds:

• 1 Gallon black
• 1 Quart teal
• 1 Pint red-orange

This is an easy and useful trick to remember when combining colors.

Getting into gear with Lil' Robots...

The bright and fun Lil' Robots collection by My Mind's Eye consists of 9 double-sided patterned papers, a die cut sheet, self adhesive chipboard elements, epoxy brads and co-ordinating ribbons.

 
 

I had so much fun playing with the various elements while creating this layout showcasing a picture of my boys having a fab time at the pool last summer. The colours were perfect and the patterns were fresh, perfect for using for my little men:) I focussed on the gears rather than the robots in this particular project.

As you can see in the photo above, I layered a plethora of patterned papers, die cuts, chipboard elements, ribbons and epoxy brads to create the dimension that I adore on my pages!

 

A fun trick that I use quite often is to customize the preprinted die cut embellishments, as I did here with the "fun times" die cut. Here, I simply cut it apart into 2 seperate words.

 

The green self adhesive letters are from the LUSH Collection. I customized them by adding a bit of an outline to them with a Sakura Micron Pen. In fact, if you look closely, many of the various elements on the layout were outlined. 

So there you have it! I hope that the next time you are wanting to set your scrapping mojo into gear, you break out the Lil' Robots Collection and get to work! You will not be disappointed:)

Love Notes from us

Yes, we admit it - we are in love!  All of us.

Every time we scrapbook, we are doing it out of love.  Every time we journal, we are writing “love notes”.  Yes, even if we are journaling about the paint being spilled, it’s a love note.

I am just tickled pink that my wall hanging “caught the eye” of My Mind’s Eye. I have been an avid MME fanatic since I first set eyes on Wild Asparagus in 2005. I had just sought out scrapping as creative therapy to help me handle the stress of being the caregiver of my Mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s. It was Wild Asparagus that totally sucked me into this amazing obsession. I still have some of that original Wild Asparagus paper. You know the problem, just can’t cut into it because it just too pretty!!!

I have become addicted to the challenge and sketch blogs. It’s such a fun way to get the creative process started! But, when I start a project, it seldom ends up as I plan. I like to play around with the papers and embellishments and just let them lead me to the point where I am happy with it. For me, scrapping is not a race, but it’s a fun journey.

Beautiful project, Suzann!  We are excited to see what everyone comes up with for our blog challenge this month.

We know, it’s a little cliché with this being the month of love and all.  We thought it would be fun for our challenge this month to use pink OR red.

 

The Challenge:  Use this sketch designed by Anam Stubbington and pink OR red (or both).  You can change it, use it as-is, flip it, whatever you'd like as long as we can still recognize the sketch.

The rules: Use ANY My Mind’s Eye products (current or past) you’d like as long as your project has at least 80% My Mind’s Eye products.
