Happy Birthday to Me! Happy Birthday to Me! Happy Birthday to Meeeeee. Happy Birthday to Me! (Good thing you can’t hear me singing to myself!) I got the most wonderful birthday surprise this last Monday- an email asking me to be the Guest Designer for the month of September! Eeeek! I didn’t even have to make a wish for this dream to come true!
Let me introduce myself. My name is Melissa Bell and I live in Eugene, Oregon. I'm married to my wonderful husband, Thomas, who is very supportive of my scrapbooking addiction. He even lets me drag him to the craft store with me! (He is my human calculator). We've been married 6 years and don't have any kids as of yet. We enjoy reading together, taking walks, watching old TV shows, visiting family, and just being in the same room together while I scrap and he works on math (he is a Ph.D. student at the University of Oregon).
I started scrapbooking when I was 11 years old. My mom came home from a Creative Memories party with a few supplies, and I was hooked! It has been fun to watch the scrapbook industry evolve along with my own personal style. My biggest supply weakness is patterned paper. I can't seem to get enough of it! I love looking at the different patterns and seeing how I can cut them out to create my own embellishments. Another technique I love is hand stitching. I don't own a sewing machine, so I love to pull out my DMC floss and see what patterns I can stitch up by hand.
Scrapbooking allows me to be creative while also preserving memories. I find that I appreciate the past more as I capture it on my pages. I see where I've been and how far I've come. A quote that really sums it up for me is:
"Above all else, it is about leaving a mark that I existed: I was here. I was hungry. I was defeated. I was happy. I was sad. I was in love. I was afraid. I was hopeful. I had an idea and I had a good purpose and that's why I made works of art." Felix Gonzalez-Torres
I LOVE My Mind’s Eye!!! It is by far one of my favorite scrapbook companies! I can never seem to get enough of all the scraping goodness they create. Here are a few of my favorite layouts/projects using some of my favorite MME:
I also love to work from scrapbook sketches. It is a great starting point for me. I love knowing what sizes my pictures need to be before I start putting together the layout. I recently joined the Creative Team here and share a layout or project at least once per week. You can also visit me at my blog www.mellyannebell.blogspot.com.
Looking forward to sharing some fun projects with you this month! Thanks for letting me play along! Happy Scrapping!
